Porsche is getting more out of the 3.8 & 4.0 n/a motors than Chevy is out of the 6.2 n/a and 13hp away from the 7.0 n/a. Stepping out of the 911 realm, there is the Cayenne & Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid with 671hp. It's fair to say that Porsche is holding up quite well against Corvette in the power department.

True, I didn't mention money to begin with. But, "bang for the buck" is what I was thinking and I don't mean just h.p. Vettes handle well and they ain't shabby in the looks dept.
Now excuse me while I have a Coors Light.

I like the logic in this thread....so I'll stir the pot.
FOR THE MONEY a Miata is a much better car then a Corvette.
Why pay 60k for a vette when a 30k Miata is more fun to drive on the street.
I've owned 2 C6's, a coupe and Z06...on the street the 2013 Miata is more engaging. High speed driving obviously favors a vette, but street speeds a vette is boring in comparison.
Back to subject at hand, there is a reason Porsche is a favorite of driving enthusiasts, if you are the type only interested in specs you are limiting yourself.....I USED to be that way and glad the (more power makes me a happier driver) mentality was left in my younger days. Kinda like developing a pallet for wine/food and moving from burgers and soda.
I love vettes and what they offer, looks, speed, cheaper maintenance but no car does everything perfect and each offers a unique experience.

****, I thought 620 seemed low.
Why I put an LS1 in a 996 C2. The non-turbo needs more power, but it drives so nice. On coilovers, the c2 996/997 have the best turn in feel of any car I've driven.

White Out: Nice job on that extensive comparison. I didn't look up the MSRP on all those Porsches. However, I think some of them are many thousand more than Z06's etc.. Plus, there are times you can get huge discounts on new Vettes. That may not be the case with Porsches. For instance in January 2017 a dealer here was offering a new 2016 Z06 for 65K.
Silver05GTO: Good point on the Miata. However, I've got to have h.p. and the more the better.

You just need to drive a Pcar, even if it's a Boxster/Cayman (in which I actually prefer the RMR layout versus RR like the 911 variants, they just lack the power plants from the 911 variants).
The C7 handles very well, posted stellar times in figure 8's etc and better than I thought it would and a vast improvement over the C6, however neither can compare to even a Boxster in the handling department. The engineering and R&D is just superior. Add fit and finish to that plus the fact that it's an import and you get your price delta.
Granted, they have become and are getting overpriced now imho, but this is in recent years. Doesn't take away from the fact that it is, imho, a superior car in all but the HP per dollar department.

It seems some Porsche people look down on Vettes. There's a sports car club here & not SCCOA. Their web site says anyone can apply for membership regardless of their car. In club photos I saw several Porsches, a Ferrari, a Maserati, an Alfa Romeo but no Vettes. A lot of the cars in the photos were older. So some would be worth under 40K, some even under 30K or less.
Out of curiosity I inquired about membership mentioning my C6. The didn't reply. I suspect they thought, "Oh a Vette. How common. Go away hick".

You're just being paranoid. Vettes are well thought of in SCCA type clubs

I don't fit in a Miata, and my next sport car will be a SUV.

You're also only focusing on purchase price. 911's have better value retention than any car under $1m+ in the past decade. A run of the mill 997 GT3 brings in well over it's original MSRP and cars like the GT2RS and GT3RS4.0 have more than doubled in price, while the C6 Z06 dropped $20k and the ZR1 $40k.

Porsche does have brand snob appeal Chevy does not, for those who care.
Pcars do 'feel better', the entire company focuses very hard on making their cars feel special, the dealership experience special, all the little options special. They have a very strong owners club as well. That is how they differentiate themselves.... And you PAY for it.
Cayman/Boxster is the poor man's midengine supercar. It will not post the best numbers in any performance category, but the way it does it - is amazing. It feels incredible. Forget BMW, Pcars are driver's cars. You have to try it to believe it.
SOME Pcars retain or increase value (GT3's, older air-cooled 911's etc). Others depreciate like a stone.
I bought a Vette over a Pcar. No regrets.

Or you demonstrated to them the same level of intelligence you have shown in this thread and they don't accept the mentally challenged. You're a clown son.

So, you compared the flagship GM Corvette Z06 against the bottom of the barrel Porsche Boxster?
That's like comparing apples to a bowling ball or putting a world class sprinter in the Special Olympics.
Go test drive a 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S (Motor Trend achieved 2.5s in the 0-60 Mph category). Or a Gemballa Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R (850Hp/690 Tq).
I'd take either one over the C7 Z06 in a heartbeat; I just can't afford it!!
Performance PER DOLLAR, yes, the C7 Z06 wins. And THAT I CAN afford.

I should have looked at the website before posting, I though Boxsters started around 70k, but they are "only" 55k... so armed with that new info, I would take a Boxster over a base C7, but not a Z06.
I'm an avid sim racer, and I've driven the whole Porsche line up on my simulator. There is a lot of difference between a Boxster/Cayman and the more expensive offerings. The chassis is just on another planet. You can take a PDK and shift in the middle of a turn, and the car will act like nothing happened. Do that going full tilt in a PDK Boxster and the car will buck a little, upsetting the balance, causing you to start sliding...
I think the 6 figure Porsches are worth their weight in gold; the entry level ones, not so much.
One other tidbit- at the HPDE events, I noticed the only 100+k cars people track here in Cali seem to be Porsches (GTR gets an honorable mention)
