Opinions on 2001 GMC Yukon
Considering buying a good friend's 2001 GMC Yukon. SLT 5.3 4WD, leather heated seats, no sunroof, liftgate. He is second owner and purchased it about 3 years ago from the original owner. 195k miles. No body or paint work ever. Well cared for and maintained. Many new parts. No leaks. Doesn't use a drop of oil.

They are good trucks and if properly maintained, will run forever.

You can't go wrong with a suv built from work trucks. The paint on those has a tendency to fade and have clear coat failure, but parts are cheap and they're very durable vehicles.
If it's cheap, I'd say go for it.

$3700. With many new parts, new tires and wheels, new rotors and pads, new radiator, new hoses, thermostat, wires and plugs, battery, starter, e brake cables, new shocks, new windshield, Jasper trans with 50k miles on it, new struts, new alternator, upgraded radio with Bluetooth, GPS, back up camera and Satellite radio. Tow mirrors, factory towing package. Alignment and driveability great.

I had a 2002, almost identical to this except mine was 2 tone paint and diff wheels.
Sold it a few years ago with 130,000 miles.
Never once had any issues except one week before I sold the starter went out. Cheap fix.
But 195,000 miles would scare me.

How many miles did your friend put on it, and what were they towing with it ? If possible do a compression/leakdown test. 200k would have me thinking about a timing chain as well.

He put approximately 25k miles on it. Towed a 22 ft. Enclosed trailer once or twice a year. Compression test done. All cylinders read good. Timing chain original.

Trans replaced is a big plus; youll need a fuel pump every few yrs
Cats are not cheap (GM is the only way to go aftermarkets suck)
Overall pretty dependable;drive it easy ought to last awhile

Well I purchased my friend's 2001 GMC Yukon. And I am glad that I did. The truck needed several exterior items which I have purchased and installed. I have detailed the exterior and am now starting to detail the interior. Runs great. No leaks. A lot of new parts that my friend installed. 196k miles and still going strong.
