Need full size SUV recommendations
GM vs Ford (Expedition) vs Toyota (or used LX570)
I'm not much in to towing. I want 4WD and would prefer to use regular octane gas. Ride quality is a plus, and I don't want to buy a problem.
Could probably get by with a Tahoe sized unit...

They're all very reliable. Newer expeditions will get the best fuel economy. Sequoia isn't as nice inside, same as lx570. Armada is nice but not as big as suburban or expedition El (sequoia isn't either).
I'd probably go expedition.

If you can wait until later this year when the 2018 Expedition is released, it's looks like it very well may be worth the wait. The current Expedition is very long in the tooth. If you need something now I would highly suggest a Tahoe or Yukon, if you stick with the 5.3L you can run regular. The 6.2L is impressive from a power standpoint but premium is recommended. I have a 2015 Yukon Denali and I love it.

I have a 2015 Escalade ESV. If you don't need storage behind the 3rd row when being used you can get a shorty Escalade or Tahoe/Yukon. Anything else would work too. If you need to carry stuff while using the 3rd row your only choice would be GM ( ESV, Yukon XL or Suburban).

We are researching the same thing. Even though I currently own a Tundra dont like the looks of the Sequoia. It looks very dated and interior is plain.
The Armada looks great on the inside but outside is boxy. Plus they are heavily discounted all the time so my suspicions are they arent selling well. And this could mean resell values in the toilet.
Expedition is OK, but not sure what 2018 will bring.
Currently our first choice is a Yukon, then a Tahoe. Time will tell because we are not buying until Dec-Jan time frame.

Scraping the splitter.
I think the Expy will be a game-changer in the full-sized market. Expect it'll hit with 420 hp (the Navigator is 450 hp) and with the new 10-speed trans and full redesign it should be a very nice truck.

Nissan always heavily discounts. It doesn't hurt their resale. It's just a trick the domestics have done for years, high msrp but everyone pays 10-20% less than msrp to feel like they got a deal.

No fords alowed
My wife has been driving a Blazer - Tahoe or GMC Jimmy or Yukon since 1985 . We have enjoyed every one with no worries .We did get a Loaded Bronco in 1990 in trade for some work I did for a Ford dealer . It stranded us in N.C. on vacation when the engine seized . Many call backs and no resale value .Sent it to auction and lost my azz .

I don't think it's quite that ugly, certainly not the most attractive SUV out there!! The 4 Runner is kind of "cult" following vehicle. They are a bit dated and pretty utilitarian. There are a group of buyers out there that appreciate those attributes. The vehicles the OP mentioned are all 3rd row seat vehicles, the 4 Runner is not.

I've always liked it...one of the last body-on-frame construction mid-size SUVs...but really needs independent rear suspension.

Wifey checked out a 2017 Expedition yesterday. She really liked it. But the sales person gave her some literature on the 2018 model. Going to try to hold out till we see one in person later this fall. It's a pretty impressive ride.
