If you think those japanese and korean badged vehicles are really 70% USA content, then try this experiment. Go to one of their dealers, give them a VIN number, and start asking for parts for that vehicle. ANY parts. See how many have Made In USA label. See if ANY have the label. I've done this and was amazed.

The asian manufacturers get away with this by using assemblies. Take the A/C system, for example. They will ship parts from japan to a sub-plant located near the final assembly plant here in the USA. They assemble the A/C unit and ship the completed assembly to the production line. Since it was assembled nearby, they call it Made in USA, and the feds buy that.

Don't be fooled. They only domestic items that the asian plants use are green American dollars which then flow overseas to their country.

I work for a Korean automotive supplier. I 100% agree with what USe-car said.

On top of that, they do allot of manufacturing oversees to a part and do a small finish operation here and say it was manufactured here.

Don't believe the bogus numbers.

And I'm sure that's exactly what US manufacturers do as well.

Not the ones I have have worked for Foosh.

I know it happens, but not the ones I have worked for and I have been in the automotive field for 35 years.

I'm pretty sure all oversee companies do it though.

How much of the Vette is actually created in the US? I figure even this car is mostly Chinese if you look break it down part by part. Ordered an AC Delco water pump for one of my GTOs trying to avoid Chinese parts, yet it was still made in China.

Yes but I bet you money many "American" car companies are also using parts sourced from "overseas". Like Mexico, China, Japan, etc.

Simple solution... don't buy new cars. Keep the ones you have and find people in the US to rebuild your existing parts.

Yes, they probably are. But, the American badged manufacturers don't go out of their way to boast about being American Made. The asians, however, do.

Not an accurate list.

My 2016 Cruze is made in Lordstown, OH and I KNOW Impala's are made in USA and Canada.

Our decades old automobile trade deal w/ Canada is pretty good, as Canada really HAS NO car industry. USA IS their car industry. American companies building cars in Canada.

I am not current on OTHER brands that MAY be build in Canada, my reference is to the USA/Canada arrangement going back to at least the 1950's.

Canadian government lists Impala as being made there.

As I stated, "Impala's are made in the USA AND Canada".

MY Cruze is made in USA and apparently they are also made in Mexico. The list does not state such.

VIN first character 1= USA made, 2= outside USA

My Cruze was made in Mexico. Said it right on the window sticker.

Edit: I also just checked my VIN and the first number is 1 so that info is also inaccurate.

1 is for Chevy.
2 was for Pontiac
3 and 4 were buck and olds.

The majority of Chevy Cruze's are built in Lordstown, OH. However, some are built in Mexico.

Must have been like that before 17 character VIN standardization. First character is origin.
