Opinions on new 1/2 ton trucks
Hey all, I have a lease maturing in 60 days on a 14 Ram. I really like the truck but unfortunately my wife convinced me to buy a black one which I have come to regret. I would otherwise keep it. I know that probably sounds stupid but its a work truck and its way too much trouble to keep it clean and its on customer sites daily.
That said, I would buy another Ram and they incentivize them really well, but it has to be at or very near the end of its production cycle. I want to at least look at some other trucks. Anyone steal a 1/2 ton as of late? I can wait out the 60 days and even longer if needed, just want to have a plan. Thanks!!
I am flexible, even looking at Colorado/canyon but they are overpriced as of now. I will look at anything that is practical. Light duty, no heavy or oversized loads. Light trailering, very occasionally pull a ski boat.

I love my 17 Raptor. They are actually beginning to come down in price. I just saw that someone was offering a couple below sticker.

The F150 is the truck everyone else wants to build. But if you like the ram, why not buy another one? Who cares if they refresh it if you like it?

I purchased a leftover Colorado diesel for much less than sticker, so far it has towed everything I have thrown at it with no problems and is getting great MPG. Only downside so far is a lack of off the line power.

A friend had a brilliant suggestion, said buy it off lease and wrap it!!! LOL, never even crossed my mind but that would work.

I picked up a 2017 Silverado in April. I've put about 4,000 miles on it so far and I really like it. Since then I leveled the front end and put the GM Performance Borla exhaust on it. I've hauled a few things with it and had it off-road camping. The crawl feature for descending steep hills is really cool! No complaints. It does everything I want it to and I get great mileage doing it. I'm averaging 23-24mpg on the highway. Not bad for a V8!
At time time, they were running 16% off MSRP. I also traded in a Silverado so I made it out with a really great deal. Chevrolet are running the same sale now but I believe they have bumped it up to 17% off MSRP. That's an awesome deal and to be honest, brings the price down to what the trucks are really worth. The Big Three have gone crazy with prices the last few years! But I get it; it's all about marketing. The sale gets people on the lot.

Thanks! I appreciate it.
I did not. The 6.2 only comes in LTZ trim on these new models. I prefer cloth seats and the lower payment so I went with the LT instead. But I will say that this 5.3 moves. I'm seriously surprised with how quick it is. Plenty of power for whatever I need and I've been getting 22-23mpg on the highway and 17-18mpg in town. Not bad for a big truck!

We are considering trading the 07 Silverado in for a new on here soon, the old one is a regular cab 5.3 and it runs decent. I bet the new ones with more power and 8 speed (?) do move out well.
The guy on the Streetspeed videos just bought similar to what we want, though I think a double cab would suffice.

I have been a life long GMC guy. I have had 8 new GMC trucks.
Wanted to buy a 17 GMC Denali 1500 4x4. Went to dealer I bought my 06 GMC Crew Cab dually diesel from. Sales manager told me he would give me a great trade as it was a one owner truck, and all its service was there, then low balled me at 20K for my trade, which had 65K miles on it. Still I test drove the GMC Denali. Missing lots of stuff for a 66K truck. No keyless ignition, or entry. Same sun roof as my 06 had. No AC vents for rear seats, and list goes on. Dealer would take 6K off. So truck would have been 40K plus tax with my trade.
Drove a F-150 Platinum crew cab, 3.5 ecoboost. Had so much more than the GMC, 10 speed auto, much better sun roof, keyless entry, push button start. AC vents for the rear, flat rear floor, bigger cab, massaging seats up front, bigger console, 110 vac front and rear, better nav system. Sticker was 1K more than the Denali. Yes got 25500 for my truck, and better discount. 34 K before tax.
Tried to get GMC dealer to match, no luck.
Needless to say I have a platinum white F-150 Platinum trim truck. Love the 36 gallon tank and 700 mile range on the hwy.

It was a leftover 16 MY that I bought back in February, sticker was $42k , but I was out the door with tax, title & 3 yr tags for under $35k. I got 0%/60mo, I think GM is offering 0% for 72 now. As I said before, if you can live with the slow off the line response the rest of the truck is great. I have towed my steel deck car trailer loaded @ 65-70 mph with no problems at all. The integrated trailer brake/exhaust brake work great, I even got 17 mpg loaded. The sweet spot seems to be ~65 mph, at that speed I get 35 mpg.

The 8-speed is currently only offered with the 6.2. I have no complaints from the 6-speed other than some gear confusion at lower speeds. Around 15-20 mph, it can't decide what gear to be in. But it provides extraordinarily low RPM at highway speeds and great mileage. Mine is a double cab and there is plenty of room. I prefered the look of it over the crew cab. I traded my '09 and am extremely happy. Big, big rebates on these right now!
