Video of the Viper ACR-E at the Ring
Looks like today is the first day of shakedown runs in an attempt to set a new Ring record. It is rare to get updates of Ring attempts since they are usually done in secret. If the weather stays dry, this should get interesting.

Well it looks like the weather has turned very bad with lots of rain in the forecast. Right now it looks like the team will have to come back in August and try to find a good slot in the Ring schedule and hope for no rain. Here is a very good video explaining what you're up against when trying to book the Ring plus I learned a few things about other manufacturers and the "tricks" they use to get a good Ring time:

Scraping the splitter.
That's not accurate. BTG (and others) is reporting that but the group that has the Vipers there has stated that they will be at the Nurburging until Friday.
They also had an issue with rear hub/wheel bearing deflection of ~1-degree that had an effect on handling characteristics of the car. They replaced all four rear hubs.
So a.) this record attempt is completely validating how difficult it is to obtain a clean "Ring time" that is apparently so important to have, and b.) even Vipers have issues (which I already know firsthand) despite being a great car.

Please do not believe any rumors that are out there (and there are a lot of them).. Bernie Katz and I will give you the true updates as soon as possible each day. Check the Viper Ring King FB page for additional pictures and updates. Thanks everyone.

We brought an extra hub with us, but never thought that we'd need 4. We go out on track Monday morning at noon. Is there anyone in Germany who can get us at least 3 (we would take 4 or 5) rear hubs that fit Gen IV or Gen V cars?

From the R&T article:
"Road & Track has been traveling with the privateer Viper team in Germany all week. The lap time was set on brand-new, stock, street-legal Kumho Ecsta V720 tires (295/25 front, 355/30 rear on factory 19-inch wheels) supplied by Kumho, a sponsor of the attempt. And this is only the first lap attempt: the team plans to go for another flying lap later this week."
Looks like they have a slot on Friday and the weather looks promising.
