Default f150 5.4 ?

I have just purchased an 05 FX4 F-150, 4x4. According to the Vin, badges, and engine cover it is a 5.4.. I went to change the oil and the filter I purchased would not fit. I called the parts house and told them they gave me the wrong filter. He got my info including the vin., which showed they gave me the correct filter for a 5.4. The filter that came off was for a 4.6.. How can I tell for sure what I have?
Thanks

If there was an engine swap, could they have used the same computer and 5.4 housing on top?

Seems the components all look very different between the two engines.

All your engine's pertinent information is on this decal on the driver's side valve cover according to the sources found online.

Can I ask you a question, why do you think the filter on the car is meant for a 4.6?

Both the 4.6 and the 5.4 use the same filter according to ford.

I've worked in a parts store, parts sometimes get boxed wrong.

I assume you know about the spark plug replacing procedure for the 05 Ford 5.4 engine?
Don't try it yourself unless you do......
