The SS will be one of those cars that people are gonna kick themselves for not buying. The g8 gxp still goes for stupid money, the ss will be similar. A stick shift gxp pr ss is probably not going to ever be below $25k.

TBH, the car we HSOULD be buying right now is the 1st gen CTS-V, and the E39 M5. They're fairly inexpensive right now, and they are basically this car, but lighter with slightly less power (and of course, older technology).

Had a 09 Pontiac G8 GT and loved it, but was concerned about parts availability (new or used) further down the road so I moved on...I wish Chevy would bring SS production to the US and keep them around. Absolutely great cars.

I've heard from '04-'06 GTO owners that some parts are nearly impossible to find. If I recall, certain body panels, for instance (if involved in a fender bender), can and do take 6+ months to find...if you can find them at all. I think the SS will have the same problem. A very low volume car (in the U.S. that is), so parts may be non-existent a few years out of warranty.
Other than that, it's an amazing car. I test drove a 2016...one of the best passenger/family haulers I've ever driven. Crazy fast, but smooth, and luxurious, while sporty.
As for why production is ceasing, with cheap gas prices, all demand in the US is for trucks, SUVs, and cross-overs. Many cars are struggling with sales now, regardless of how good a vehicle they are. When it comes to vehicles, US consumers make their decisions based on gas prices. With cheap gas, Americans want SUV/trucks. Nothing anybody can do to stop that trend.

Having owned a 2005 GTO and a 2009 G8 GXP, I have made no bones about it, I'm a big Holden fan.
This being said, in 2015 my wife and I were looking for a new family car with 4 doors. We looked and looked and it came down between the Charger SRT and the Chevy SS. Both were fast, had plenty of inside room and was everything we wanted for a family car. Hell, the SS would even parallel park itself. (after looking for a couple of weeks we finally found someone who knew how to do the parallel parking thing, most people at the dealerships didn't have a clue).
I was leaning SS..............however the SS just didn't stand out. It looked almost like any Malibu or Impala. There just wasn't any visual 'pop' on the car. IMHO this and a lack of support by GM is what lead to the death of the SS. Outside of the look of the car, trust me it had almost everything else going for it.
So we drove the Charger SRT home vs. the SS.

With the 20% off incentive on the SS I am considering trading in my 2014 Audi S6. Love my Audi but I can probably trade my car with @43k miles and walk out the door with a new SS. The SS is truly one of the most underrated cars out there.
I'm sleeping on this decision but know if I pull the trigger I'll need to do it before month end when the incentive is over. I know the SS isn't an S6 but there is a ton of value in that car!

I made online plans to buy one. Going to drive to the dealership in a couple of days to finalize it, so we all know the deal could go south before then.
Amazing car and value for just under $40K.
The looks? The plain jane look with the performance is what attracted me to it. No one can see it coming. Just another ho hum sedan............until you mash your right foot.
MRC, dual mode exhaust, leather, power seats on both sides, nice size trunk, dual zone climate control, the list goes on and on.

This (parts availability). I think it's going to be a serious problem 7+ years down the road.

I made it under the wire for that 20% off deal and traded my 14 S6 for a 17 SS. Within a 300 mile radius of my home there were 3 cars left on 11/30/17 and I got one of them. There's @30 17 SS's left in the entire country. Already put 1200 miles on this car and must say it's one helluva bang for the buck!! If you're considering one of these just pull the trigger and go for it. You won't regret it!!
