What if I preferred something more refined ?
So I've had my Grand sport for a while now and to be honest, as much as I love it, at the age of 50 I'm thinking I may prefer something in a sport car thats still powerful, refined and less raw...you know something quieter, so I can hear myself think while driving 80mph... Anything available in the under 100K Msrp category that would be a better suit ? tough niche market I think.... what do you all say ?

The GS was probably the wrong car then, a base Stingray would probably have suited you better. The next notch down (or up depending on your preferences) would be Cadillac or a European sports sedan

Safety Car
Mercedes SL?
(Although my vert at 80 is pretty quiet)

I guess it depends. Is a four door car a "sports car" to you? If so, then there are naturally a few more choices. Otherwise, you're limited to two doors, and refined as you say so you can hear yourself think at 80 mph. I'd guess it might be an AMG MB, Audi coupes, etc.

I owned one, and the F-Type is anything but quiet, with an even rowdier exhaust note than the C7. It's a British version of a Corvette, albeit a little too porky. It has a little more power than a GS or Stingray, but the weight penalty gives the C7 a better power-to-weight ratio.
It is a nice car, but the V8 version is not available in a manual. The other issue is that the V8 is only available in AWD in the U.S now. 14-15 MY F-Types were the only V8 RWD cars available here. The auto-only V8 F-Type is why I'm in a C7, but the ZF8 auto in the F-Type is a much better transmission than the A8 in the C7, with close to zero mechanical issues or complaints. Overall, the F-Type has proven to be very reliable.
Oh, yeah new V8 F-Types start well over $100K, but slightly used ones are routinely found in the $70-80K range.

You can go further in sound insulation at much less cost than trading for another car. Search the threads here for more specifics on what can be done, or just go to a good stereo installation shop, and they'll know what to do regarding sound insulation.

Well there are some very good points here Thank you....
Porsche.... Love those cars but for under 100,00 you only get the shell, 3 wheels and the shifter... If I want all the other accessories.... brakes, engine, driver seat etc... it's price soars to 150,000 and where do I put my golf clubs?
Lexus RCF ? good deal on that right now... The LC500 is very nice, though, I'll wait until they offer some aggressive incentives on it.
BMW scares me I've had two and it seemed they enjoyed being towed back to the dealership often... I love Audis, might consider a TTRS, Mercedes is a possibility too.....
The wife thinks I'm nuts....

Mercedes SL 550 convertible would be my choice if I wanted to go down that road-
I'm 69 and when I was 50 I sold my 68 427/390 vert because I wanted something more refined in my "old" age and got a BMW 540i. At age 69 I regret that decision and it sticks in my craw. 50 ain't old and neither is 69 (to an 80 yr old).

Stretch the budget a bit and look at a certified AMG GT S. They make my Corvette-and-Ferrari-owning-heart go "thumpty-thump-thump!"

I hear the Toyota Avalon is nice. Comes in beige too!
No but seriously, if you want a luxury car, with the performance of a GS, 100k isn't enough. If you just want a quieter car that's powerful, get a Hellcat or other pony car.

Actually I traded in my pickup truck this week for a new left over Infiniti Q50 Redsport, I practically stole it... This car is exactly what I was looking for... 400HP AWD handles at least as good as the Vette quiet on the road at 80-85 plenty of electronic gadgets.... Now I'll keep the Vette and drive It in the summer and have fun with the Infiniti during winter time.....

So inadvertently I found myself at an Infiniti dealer... The sticker was 58800 and it was a left over 16. I took it for a test drive and was amazed at the power, ride and handling... fit and finish was great, nicely appointed cabin, just an all around perfect vehicle to take the place of my pick up truck AWD golf club fitting trunk and they offered it to me at 41988.... the price of a well equipped Altima.... not much to think about there... 20K less than the last 2 Audi S4's I had and is 100% on par with them
