Default Build thread, 2009 Miata LS3 TR6060 TVS2300 Magnuson supercharged

Hey all,

I am in Maryland and in the midst of doing a NC miata LS3 with a bit of a twist- doing a Magnuson heartbeat supercharger that is for an LS3 Corvette. This is a serious thing, not some pie in the sky. The car, a 2009 miata, is currently at V8 roadsters facility in Florida. Along with it is a full pullout LS3 motor and TR6060 6 speed manual out of a wrecked 2014 Camaro with 4000miles.

Al Ludington from v8Roadsters who does there turnkey builds is doing the wrenching.

The build is pretty comprehensive, and I think interesting:

2009 miata- 147K miles- Copper Red Mica Power Retractable Hardtop in GT trim- so fully loaded leather, BOSE, HID's etc
LS3, TR6060 6 speed
V8 roadsters full conversion kit: https://v8roadsters.com/product/nc-lsx-package/
conversion kit includes header back exhaust, cooling, fuel, mounting, axles, etc
AAM rear diff. from Camaro with stock 3.27 gears, rebuilt with Detroit Locker TruTrac LSD
MGW short shifter
Remote oil cooler
Cam Motion Cam
Ohlins DFV coilovers- with custom remote adjusters for the rear
Rx8 rear suspension swap- this includes all suspension arms, bushings, and knuckles- this is to allow swap in rear hubs to RX8 hubs
Rx8 front and rear brakes- calipers and discs- much larger
Rx8 front and rear hubs- much larger
All new NC miata front bushings

All of the suspension and brake parts are mazda OEM RX8 parts-mostly new

Enkei RPF1 wheels 17x9 with Toyo RA1 255/40-17s at all 4 corners- rolled fenders to accomodate

For the last couple of weeks I've gone back and forth about the Magnuson Heartbeat TVS2300 supercharger. It is the only part I haven't ordered. It is doable and would be unique from other LS miata swaps I am aware of. If I do the blower I would do a Cam Motion LS stage 1 supercharger cam. I would hope to see 600 rwhp at 10psi of boost. The only major change would be having the stock front hood reworked to allow the 1 7/8 inches extra room above the stock LS3 intake, along with mounting the air/water heat exchanger.

Currently the cam I have is a normally aspirated Cam Motion Cam with specs:
Hydraulic Roller Camshaft.
Duration at .050": 226/238.
114 Lobe Center Angle with a 110 Intake Center line.
Lift with 1.7 Rocker Arm Ratio: .595"/.578"

With the NA cam I would expect 460-470 rwhp

Target weight:
Normally aspirated: 2900lbs
Supercharged: 3050lbs

The car will have full dyno tuning done so dyno graphs should be easily provided down the road.

I've attached the only pictures current. The takeout motor/transmission and the car picture before shipping of the car stock with wheels/tires- Gives a reasonable Idea of how exterior will look- though it will be lower and with rolled fenders.

Everything else is a pile of parts right now.

Timeline of build completion would be Feb/March.

My goal with the project is to be able to pull on my 575 awhp/625 awtq 2012 Nissan GTR, and be everyday drivable.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Justin Wade

I'll have to 2nd that motion!!!!!!

I didn't see it on your list, but you should definitely consider something other than the stock clutch if you do go with the supercharged setup. Can't wait to see some pics of the finished product

Super cool.

I'd shy away from the SC if you can keep the original hood. Is there room on the sides for turbos or a rear mounted turbo?

Rwd vs awd will be the limiting factor.

No doubt this is a cool project but that motor NA is plenty, adding SC makes it twice as dangerous as a Shelby Cobra.. lol at least the Shelby you can put huge meat in back to help manage the power better.
