it did exactly what GM wanted it to do...I think they are very nice vehicles even at full sticker but full disclosure, I bought one...thanks for linking the article.

My local dealer had one in the showroom before I bought my Corvette. It has the specs, but is a plain jane sleeper. Not worth the money they wanted for it. The G8 GTS had the looks to go with the performance, but the SS doesn't.

A salesman tried to get me to take it out on a test ride when I was checking it out, but I passed.

Almost hate to admit this but I have more fun driving my 2017 auto SS than any Corvette I have owned.

Thanks for posting that. Makes sense. I'm enjoying mine. Worth it at 40k but not 50k imo.

Same for me. Took advantage of the Nov 20% off sale and picked up a silver auto with sunroof and spare for just under $40k.

I'm sure there will be angry non believers, but, I rode in one that beat a new Stringray from a standing start drag in a 1/4 mile race. We race at least every other Saturday night. I was shocked and impressed with the SS. The Stingray was an auto.
I then beat the Stingray also with my old C5, which to be fair is modified and not at 350hp. Probably around 480 hp.
I didn't like the seats in the SS, they were HARD.

Thought the same thing about the seats when I went for a test drive. Almost made the decision not to buy it because of the seats. Another owner told me not to worry about it as they would soften up. He was right. Within 2 weeks they softened and even my wife commented how comfortable they are. Plus as a old geezer, entering or exiting the car is about as easy as it gets.

My 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP was a fantastic car, and was one car that both my wife and I enjoyed. It was a big 4 door grocery getter with the LS3 engine that I got a ( showroom stock) 12.9 in the quarter. With bolt ons (headers, cai, tune, 3200 torque converter, and drag radials) it was an 11.8-11.9 car. Amazing car!

Back in 2015 we were looking for another family car and it boiled down to the SS (naturally) and the Dodge Charger SRT. We looked all over Houston to find a car we liked. The Dodge Charger SRT won the battle based on the looks of the Charger SRT vs. the SS. The reason why we went Dodge was the looks. The Charger stood out where ever we took it, however the SS looked like any Impala or Malibu. Where the G8 GXP really stood out, the SS didn't . This was a hard decision because we went in with the SS as a 60% 'favorite.'

Interesting article. Got my SS last day of the 20% off sale in November. Traded in an Audi S6. Love this car so far! Still feel at 50k there was a lot of value in it. At 20% off the car was a steal!

This makes sense. The SS was benchmarked off the E39 (99-03) M5 which is widely considered the peak of M5s in terms of driving engagement and fun. I can see it being more fun and less "work" than driving a Corvette.

Plus both front doors are HUGE. Super easy for an old guy like me with an occasional issue with my back to enter and exit. Even the wife commented on how easy it is to enter and exit. Both front seats are powered and the drivers has 2 memory settings. If you put the same package in a late model BMW you would be looking at a $75K + car.

OLD GOAT, that's a really nice G8!
