GM's new 4.2 twin turbo V8 550hp, 627 torque
Its Cadillac, but we know the C8 is supposed to be getting a twin turbo 4.2 V8

550 hp from a 4.2 twin turbo V8 seems a bit weak to me, considering others making as much or more with smaller V6 turbos. Hope that it is bumped up a bit for use in the C8.

This new motor is supposed to be Cadillac specific and available with 500 or 550 hp with the only difference being the state of the PCM tune. And it is to be introduced in the CT6 in 2019. So likely could easily produce more power. But I do recall that the article said something like 20 psi of boost. But check that as my memory ain't what it was.

Likely a Cadillac exclusive for a year or so...GM isn't going to invest/build a new engine just for one brand (and then for just a few vehicles). This will be the engine used in the next HiPer 'Vette although power/torque will likely be tweaked upwards a bit.

It looks really exciting. GM tends to do DOHC engines well when they do them. The one thing that has me scratching my head is the fact that the turbos are located between the cylinder banks beneath that intake manifold / intercooler. (Whatever it is at the top.) Turbos put out ALOT of heat, especially when they are run hard. How do they manage cooling with this engine? Heat soak must be a real issue when this engine is driven hard. I see that the Germans have already employed this technology in their various brands, so it must work.....but how well?
This may be a partial answer as to why this engine isn't making 700+ horsepower as others have mentioned. Maybe to make that kind of power, the turbos need to be mounted "outboard".
Very cool. These are exciting times for car guys!

I've been saying this for months. I think there is a good chance there will be a Cadillac ME car. They are really into the racing scene again and this would be a nice marketing tool. There may also be a Corvette version as well. BG built the XLR alongside the Corvette so they can do it again.

According to a Forbes article, this twin turbo 4.2L will be hand built at GM's Performance Build Center (PBC) within the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green Kentucky. If that's true, it not hard to believe that this powerplant may make its way into the C8.

I agree. Once upon a time, all the Corvette V8s were exclusive to Corvette, but they ultimately migrated to other models.

Cien was a step in that direction that they should have tried but didn't.

At this stage the new engine is going into a front engine car, which is a really nice option for the CT6, though it is likely to be expensive. The fact that it to be built at Bowling Green, IMO, cinches it that it is a future Corvette engine.

Interesting car that I may consider. They are ramping up their game to compete with the Benz S AMG, Audi's S8, BMW 7M. AWD should give it a pretty good launch regardless of the weight. Hoping they drop this in the Escalade and have V option for that too!

Would be pretty cool to see an Escalade V but a fully optioned out one now is just under $100K ...... Not sure what the demand would be at the $110-115K price point that the V model would likely be?? I'm impressed at the performance of my 2015 Denali with the 6.2L/8speed. We rented a pair of 2018 Escalade ESV's for our last trip out to Vail in February.... the 10 speed trans is really nice. The 627 foot pounds of torque would really get a big beast like this rolling quickly!!!!
