I didn't have my own car until I was a senior in high school(1959/1960). It was a 1953 Ford 2 door sedan that I installed a 1957 Chevy engine 283 bored 1/8" with my home ported heads with 1/8" size valves and a hot cam, with a 3 speed Chevy transmission. 100% built in my Mom's back yard. Bought my speed parts mail orderfrom Honest Charley Speed Shop in Chattanooga, TN.

I graduated from high school in 2003. As a junior (2001) I bought myself a 1970 Firebird with the dual snorkel hood from the Formula 400 firebird on it. It was bright red, chrome wheels and had red and black leather and suede interior. It was an awesome car and got lots of attention. Mainly because the car itself was over 30 years old at that point. It was about a year or two later that I was watching the movie 'American Beauty' for the first time and what do ya know - the husband (Lester) buys himself a 1970 Firebird. Same damn car that I had down to the exact color. Attached picture from the movie down below. Great car.

High school, Circa 1960s My first car was a 59 Chevy 283 with the rare factory 4 Spd trans. Got it in 1963, reasonably quick for that era.
After wrecking it I got a 63 Dodge 383 4 barrel Auto trans in 65 just before I graduated.
Last used cars I ever got till late 80s and bought a couple C3 Vettes

Can't find a picture of mine, but it was an '85 Chevy Celebrity, the car below is an '88 but color is close. 2.5L Iron Duke 4 cylinder, 76HP (I have 2 motorcycles with more HP than that now). I did put a nice cassette deck, amp and new 6x9's in it though. I had a friend that had one also. We'd go out on county roads at night and stage 1/4 mile drag races between them. It worked out well because you could run the 1/4 in a 4 cylinder Celebrity without breaking the 55mph speed limit!

1966 Chevy II was my first car. Drove it for about 1 1/2 years, then sold it to my brother when he got his license. It was similar to this, but was beige and had a 230ci six-cylinder and powerglide.
1971 Riviera. Looked just like this picture. Drove it for about 6 months.

1968 Honda CB350, followed my a 1975 Yamaha RD350. The summer I graduated, I traded my RD for my first car, a silver/black '66 Pontiac GTO with a 4 speed and a positraction rear which I added a tripower set-up to. My gasoline budget went through the floor, but it was a lot of fun. Still have the '65 and '67 GTO's I bought a couple of years later for peanuts as cheap used cars.

Couldn't afford a car in high school. My girlfriend/now wife of 40 years did though - a 66 Malibu then a VW bug. My first car was a 1976 Oldsmobile 442 after I had joined the Air Force in 77. Loved that car - it was red and white with a white interior.
