Car and Driver is confirming the return of the Viper in 2021 or 2022
They said it's factual without a doubt. Some things I often don't believe in mags at all, but the way it was worded seemed the source was quite verified.
I knew it'd come back for sure, but I didn't think it'd be so quick. They theorize the car will be built similar to the FordGT...by an outside assembler. They said a standard convertible will come out from Day 1 as well...so, seems they are going to try to go the straight Corvette competition route with a platform to rebuild on...something very "bandwidth friendly". Article says V8 equipped.
Just passin along the info, don't shoot the messenger.

I take the mgs with many grains of salt. Especially C&D, they have been pushing this notion of a ME C8 for years, and will keep doing so because it sells and nobody can do anything about it.
I expect Viper to return in a few years. I expect it to share a platform with a Maserati or Alfa, will likely still have a V10 but it may borrow some ideas from the Italian engines. I suspect the Viper will become more sedate, and probably even offer an automatic of some sort (maybe a dsg or similar). I also expect a big price increase, which seems silly when you consider how expensive the last Viper was, but I bet it happens anyways.

God, I really hope so.....i assumed it would be back, though, as the last generation died due to side curtain airbag requirements and the cost to accommodate an entire chassis change for the generation did not make financial sense. The other issues they faced were poor marketing, overpricing out of the gate and lack of a topless option. Don't get me wrong, I really liked the design of the Gen 5 but the lack of a convertible/targa option was a deal breaker for me.

I love the Gen V Viper. If prices would come down a little bit I'd own one.

"Hey, let's re-introduce a car that never made us any money and had 3 separate production stoppages because not enough folks wanted one".
Brilliant, FCA can't figure out how to sell what they have...

Got my new issue of C&D in the mail, today. Along with mentioning the return of the Viper, they also showed pictures, that don't appear to be just drawings, of the long-awaited mid-engine Corvette......

Hopefully they forget the V-10 this time!

A Viper without a v10 just isn' right. Then it' just a more raw Corvette.

I dont understand why the Viper never did a targa top like the corvettes. I know its made as a track car and rigidity means the most, but surely technology can accommodate this now. I wish my Gen2 ACR was a targa haha

Yep, if it was coming back any time soon they would have kept at least some of the Viper engineering team around rather than reassign all of them to more mundane departments. If it were to return it won't be a Viper it would be a normal performance car nothing like the FGT that's for sure, Dodge just cant sell car like that for enough money to make a case for building it.

I've had 3 vipers. First two tried to kill me. Last one had nannies and much easier to drive. Each was a daily. Like the car, don't trust Dodge that killed the car. I'm not a die hard viper guy or corvette or AMG for that matter. I enjoy different driving experiences. Still, another Viper is not a thought
