Good AWD daily driver?
Hey guys, I've been driving an AWD volvo s60r as my daily when not driving the vette.
The tranny just went out on it sadly, and I'm starting to research other cars.
I am looking to spend about 5-8k on somthing used obviously. Preferably in the 2004-2008 range. I wan somthing halfway nice, and I need AWD as I live in Wisconsin and winters can get pretty bad.
I dont want a truck,wagon, suv, etc. I want a car. 2 or 4 door, doesn't really matter.
I've been looking at 2004 and up bmw 330xi's, there are a couple on Craigslist for less than 100k miles, in great shape for about 5k. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on one but don't know if I want to deal with the higher maintenance and parts costs when somthing breaks on it.
I am hoping to get somthing at least a little luxury or sporty though.
I've looked into subarus, but don't want to run into head gasket issues, which they seem to often.
Anyone have any AWD car reccomendations in the 5-8k range? Would the bimmer be a bad choice? Any opinions are appreciated!

Big fan of Audi myself. My wife's A5 has 160,000 miles on it and the biggest issue is the top of the steering wheel is fading from the Texas sun. And it drives great when there's ice on the roads - we don't even bother with snow tires in winter. Around here, I see so many trucks in the ditch after ice storms. They don't get it that 4WD is NOT the same as AWD.

Why not replace the transmission in the S60R? I had one of those. Damn that thing was a money pit. I was going to recommend the Focus RS but then I saw your budget.

Side note. There is an AWD CTS sport for sale a few threads down for $7,900 lol.
