Default Z51 vs STI

I have been looking a winter “beater” for the 2 months of the year when driving my 2015 Z51 is rather dangerous. Another possibility is trading my Vette for a new WRX-STI....would be close to a straight swap and I would have a year vehicle that would be great fun at my local track.
Thoughts??

I have a Z51 and one of my other vehicles is a 2017 Focus RS to daily drive. The reports are the RS is a much better platform than the STI.

I have a GT350 and an RS. The RS is the funnest DD I have ever had. I also looked at the STi and the Golf R. The RS was the best car for me.

Last winter I saw a guy driving a GTR with snow tires in an ice storm. It was an awesome sight.

I traded an sti for my current c6 gs. It was GREAT. It's the best drivers car on the market right now. The last one even. It's not fast, but its entertaining and engaging. Fuel economy sucks, the community is toxic, and it doesn't thrill like a corvette.

If I lived somewhere with like a real winter, I would have one. The problem with the STI is it's the greatest daily driver car there is. It feels like a daily. It is practical like a daily. It never feels like an occassion like a corvette.

2004 STi is the most fun winter daily driver I've ever had, followed by an H1.

After some research I am leaning towards the Focus. I think I can get one of the Limited Edition 2018s.

Nice! Definitely drive it to make sure you can live with the ride. It is harsh. But it is such a blast!

My toy is a GT350R and I replaced my daily a few months ago with what needed to be 4 doors, 4 seats, and AWD for the winter months. I’m partial to Audi’s and found a new S3 for a screaming deal. It’s so much fun and does everything well, I rarely drive the 350 anymore.

I drive a CTS-V year round, including in the snow. With snow tires it does just fine. An STI does sound like a great winter car if you get a LOT of snow where you live.

Ever consider leasing, so you can keep the 'Vette & have a reliable winter car/dd ? That's what I did a few weeks ago. Had to replace my aging '02 Explorer dd w/ a '19 Jeep Cherokee.

I purchased a tuned 2016 STi with 320whp & 355wtq about a year ago. I also have an 06Z06 (stock).

STi:
Engine:
Cobb Catted Downpipe
Cobb Fuel Pressure Regulator
Cobb Access Port
Cobb High Flow Fuel Pump
Cobb SF Intake with Box
Cobb 725cc Top Feed Injectors
Cobb Turbo Heat Shield
Grimmspeed Ceramic Coated 38mm EWG Up Pipe
Grimmspeed VF series Wastegate Bracket
Grimmspeed Electric Boost Control Solenoid
Perrin Turbo Inlet
Perrin Equal Length Headers
Crawford Air Oil Separator
NGK One Step Colder Spark Plugs
Mishimoto Coated Top Mount Intercooler
Tial 38mm External Wastegate
Invidia Q300 Cat Back Exhaust
Drivetrain:
Cobb Front and Rear Shifter Bushings
Kart Boy Short Throw Shifter

If I sold my Z, I would really miss it.

If I sold the STi, I would not be too upset. It's fun, but you need to be in the correct gear & keep your rpm's up to be quick. There is a learning curve for sure (I'm still trying to figure it out).

I think you will miss the V8, torque, top end pull. Also, on hot days the turbo lag is really noticeable.

The 2 cars are totally different, you need to spend some time in an STi or RS before you pull the trigger.

Good Luck!
