McLaren 720S

A local guy autocrosses an older (heh...) McLaren MP4-12C. It's an impressive car. Draws the obvious on-lookers each time it shows up. Despite it's sporting prowess he still struggles against a good chunk of drivers in Miatas and the last time he was there a Focus RS set a time that was over two & a half seconds quicker than his best in the McLaren (to be fair though the Focus RS is a monster of a hatchback).
edit:
Pro driver in a Ford Fiest ST beats avg Joe in a C7 Stingray with mild mods.
There are many stories I've read of track day instructors embarrassing people driving cars that are MUCH more expensive. A recent youtube video I saw had an instructor drive a MINI Cooper just as fast as an amateur enthusiast driving a F430.

I would have made time for that test drive.

Oh yeah. 99% of the amateur drivers are not able to probably even achieve 4/10 of what a supercar like McLaren is capable of (myself included, not trying to talk down to anyone). And this extends to virtually any car on the road....including dare I say Corvettes as well as Porsches and BMWs, etc. etc.

I was recently in London and became super interested in McLarens after seeing so many of them on the street. I've been doing some reading and stopped by the McLaren dealer in Palo Alto this morning. Holy sh*t. Goes without saying I love my Grand Sport. Great car, no complaints. I like Porsches too. The base Carreras are nice but frankly no more special than the Corvettes. Once you get up to a 911 GTS or GT3, they start to cross that line. But the McLaren 720, that is a special car. The engineering, the build, the interior, the design. Some day, I would *love* to have one - even more so than a Ferrari or Lambo. The sales guy was nice and even offered me a test drive, but I didn't have the time, and I'm worried that it would warp my perception anyway. BTW, the car was $345k and they sell for MSRP.

Also, the "no resale" restriction ends 2 years after the initial purchase, so there will probably be more than a few GT owners looking to cash in soon and selling.

Cena probably had some pretty good advice regarding how to deal with the Ford GT because right now the demand is super high with essentially 0 supply. If Cena's lawyers calculated the cost of being sued by Ford vs able to off-load it at auction at essentially 3x its price...it was probably a positive outcome in the end.
Ford GT values will go down after the no-resale agreement expires (as supply increases), so right now is the best market to take advantage IF you are willing to deal with the headache of being sued by Ford and hopefully your Ford GT will be sold for a much higher value than a settlement with Ford
Long-term value of the GT will remain to be seen, obviously.

You're basically patting yourself on the back and saying that water is wet, it's pretty common knowledge how Ford picked who it would sell GT's too.

Yes, not being able to buy new is a major issue for some despite your attempt at denying it.

Agreed.
I have no dog in the game. Last time I watched WWF (yeah when it was still called that) was in the 8th grade. Don't care much for Cena but he supposedly is very popular.
Shrewed business decision for sure.
