Default Buick grand sports

Buick has a rich history with its Grand Sports, e.g Riviera, wildcat, century and regal I know corvette had our first G.S in 1963. Did Buick start the series somewhere around '65 or sooner ?

I googled this and it turns out Buicks are Gran Sports. Pretty classy.

...and towards the end, there were "T-Type" models. My Dad taught me to drive on his black 88 LeSabre T-Type. For a late 80's Buick, it was pretty cool!

I have friend that owns several mid 60's Buick Gran Sports. They are different from the Corvette Grand Sports. The Buick I would love to own would be a 1970 Stage III GSX. It is kind of out of my price range.

My buddy bought GNX #433 back in the day. With 89mi on it. Sick car. Had it 2 years sold it with 93mi on it lol. Car is worth a mint today. Had he only left it in the garage...

was never a fan of Corvette using GS or bringing it back I should say. Should have just called it a Z52 or something supposed to be getting away from Z06 abs GS next gen. Will be interesting.

Back in 1973, I had a '71 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 convertible. Stump pulling power and a beautiful design. Sure wish I had held on to that car.

Personally, I think Buick started using the Gran Sport moniker around 1964.....

I believe the first GS was the 65 skylark gs with an optional 401 nail head. First grand national was in 82 first of the really quick ones was in 86 when they added the turbo. I had an 87 t type we4 factory lightweight car. Aluminum bumper supports aluminum rear drums roll up windows and manual locks. They were actually quicker then the GN. then came the 87 gnx. Ultimate GN but should have been at twice the cost. Bottom line is 500 dollars worth of bolt on parts and any gn/t type could run with a gnx. 1000 bucks and you could eat them for lunch. Bigger down pipe, bigger intercooler, headers, no cats, hot wired fuel pump and a manual boost control set on 18 on premium with a chip and the stock turbo and I ran a 12.3 All for under a grand. Add a bigger turbo and alcohol injecton for another grand and you could easily do mid 11s. They were actually cheaper to modify if you factored hp/cost then a small block chev. Coolest ever buick though was the 70 gnx. Did I tell you I have a soft spot for buicks! It all started one day in the early 70s. I had a 70 ls6 Chevelle that was about the quickest stock car in town. I got beat once by a w30 olds and once by a hemi cuda but beat both of those cars many times and they beat me only once. then a lieutenant for the local air force based transferred in with a stage 1 70 gs with a fr_____ automatic. I never saw him lose a race to a stock car. NOT ONCE and the gnx's were even a tad quicker. Used to shake my head at him. No brake torque not even warming up his tires. He sit at the line and when the arm dropped hed just mat it. I saw him kick but while drinking a beer (it was the 70s) while we were trying to launch without going up in smoke and frantically rowing gears. We used to laugh at him winning on hot days with the windows rolled up and the ac on!!!

That's correct.
I know because back in the 70s I was looking for a beater to drive to work to keep the miles off my Vette. I found a used 64 Buick Skylark convertible that picked up on the cheap. Turns out it was the predecessor to the Gran Sport. It had a V8 with a 4BBL carb, Posi-traction and a HD automatic transmission with bucket seats. I confirmed with the Buick dealer, there was no GS in 64.

The base engine in the first grand sports was the 340. I love to have that 64 convertible today!
