O/T My “Darkside” Transition (Like Frankie’s...smile)
Thought I’d surface here after parting with our ‘65 last August. We had a great run of enjoyment over 37 years with that ‘5. It was time and I wanted to pass the car on to someone who would appreciate her for where she was at. We are in good health and I wanted to do this while I had all my faculties. SUCCESS! The car is now in sunny California near Santa Barbara with a new car nut
So, my wife says to me “Let’s look at a Crossfire coupe”. For the life of me, I could not picture the car. I remembered the name but drew a blank. Google is your friend and my research to include the Crossfireforum.org got me a crash course on this car. Turns out the car was a joint effort by the short term marriage of Daimler Benz and Chrysler, where the chassis and drivetrain is Mercedes and the body was designed by Chrysler. All the cars were built in Osnabruck, Germany. Crossfires were made 5 years (2004-2008). The standard drivetrain was an aluminum block and heads mated to a 6 speed manual or a 5 speed automatic. Standard HP is 215. Further reading I discovered they made a hot rod version 2 years (2005 @ 2006), calling it SRT6 that is supercharged bumping HP to 330!, but only in an automatic. :
Ya’ know, happy wife, happy life! . We are now the proud owner of a 2005 SRT6 coupe in Sapphire Silver Blue.
This is where it gets interesting Frankie. After buying the car and my wife driving her (she really likes the sporty look and the creature comforts), Mary tells me she was thinking T Bird ‘02-05 but said Crossfire We both laughed out loud as Mary truly likes the Crossfire. Anyhoo, here are some pics of our new to us ride
The RUSH continues

Ha!
I liked those the day they came out and still do....another esoteric model that never seemd to quite catch on. The Pontiac Solstice is in the same category - was never big on the Prowler or that sorta/kinda retro pickup truck thingee that Chevy had for a while...I think those had Corvette engines...

Crossfire - sounds like an ignition problem, maybe misrouted plug wires........
Wasnt that the name of the 84 Corvette engine?
PS - I always thought the SSRs were kinda cool - certainly no worse than a 2002 Tbird.
Now the HHR - that was ugly!
Then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder - something EVERYBODY in these threads should remember.......
Heck, these kinds of threads/posts all belong in the real OT anyway, not in the C2 forum.

Tuxnharley and 1snake,
You’re absolutely right. I’ve been away since selling my ‘65 last August and have been just a lurker here since doing so. While I had that car I posted countless times here at the C1/C2 forum on many topics eliciting advice on various things on that ‘65. Lots of helpful advice given to me from many folks here. I guess I was mistaken in piggy backing a separate topic here to Frankie’s wife’s new ride. I also thought the many here, post more here then in Off Topic, and might be curious of what 6T5RUSH is doing since parting with the C2.
My misjudgement.
Moderators, please move this to the Off Topic area.
Thank you!
Regards,
Jim

Jim(6T5RUSH) -
Great to hear from you and that you are going well post C2! Thanks for your most gracious response.
My comments were not intended to be directed towards you personally, but rather were intended in a larger context and direction.
Best Wishes,
Glenn

Maybe we should just start a new thread - daily drivers, other collector cars and spouse cars of vintage Corvette owners. Then it would all be grouped together and members could either participate or ignore it.

That's my approach when I'm not interested in a particular thread.....
I see posts from long time members about 4-post lifts, garage floors and the WW-II aircraft they like or are working on....
At least this one (and mine) have cars in them...

Well, yeah, but where does one draw the line? Should any member just be able to post anything they are interested in here in the C2 Forum?
I still miss my 73 Bronco........
Seems like this could get real cluttered pretty darn fast!

Did anybody ever notice - or care - that there is a specific forum for “other cars” under the real OT heading?

However, Id remind those complaining about OT topics... C1/C2 has always had a greater threshold of tolerance for topics a little out of the box, because 1. The crowd here is a little less tolerant of the OT section in general and 2. This crowd is smaller, and more personally attached to one another and often enjoy chatting about stuff with each other, not in the OT arena, about a variety of topics. The Admins have been supportive of allowing more OT leeway here.
Theres a number of OT topics that are very popular here... military planes for example, that I see some people who complain about OT threads, enjoy routinely.
If people would prefer we stop considering member participation in such threads, we can go back to a strict “move everything to OT” policy.

If you rigidly restrict threads here to topics about C1, C2, this place could get really boring, really quickly.
