If any one out there needs a Professional detail or Expert paint "correction" on their ride I would highly recommend Thomas Dekany autopian1@gmail.com.
Thomas does really amazing work right in your own garage. He does not rush the work. On my 99 I needed my paint "corrected" that is swirls and holograms removed.......and I had a lot of them !
Thomas arrived at 11am and didn't stop until 8:30pm. He will evaluate your paint and what you want done, then you agree on a price up front.
He is also willing to talk to you and provide tips as he works as to what he uses and why. No sales pitches.
This guy knows his trade ! And has an amazing work ethic !
My TR paint has never looked so good, hell no paint on any car I have ever owned has looked this good.......even when brand new.

Congrats Jim! I know it looks great and, I haven't even seen pics. (you will post pics, won't you? ) How is that possible? Thomas also performed his craftsmanship on my car too. There is NO exaggeration when I say that Thomas made my paint look flawless. The metal flake in the EB paint shows through like never before.
Everyone, do your car a favor and call Thomas. You'll be astounded by his work.

Well I didn't take any before pics, but Thomas did........so once I get those I can post up
Mine needs some serious help too... gotta love Black...i'll check him out for sure..couple hundred bucks or so?
It will all depend on how much damage there is, what level of correction you want, long he thinks it will take. Once he sees it he will give you a price.
Whats a ballpark range for getting this done on a decent looking car with some swirl marks?
Thomas will tailor his work to what "you" want to achieve.
He charges $50/hr......an easy or less perfect job can take as little as a couple of hours.......a perfect job on an entire car can take 20+ to 30+ hours. Based on what he explained at a seminar last year you can figure on 3 - 10 hours for a good job on a nice car. He can do a car in installments.....initially work on the horizontal surfaces (hood, top, and/or rear deck) which are the most obvious when looking at a car, then do the rest as finances allow.
As Jim pointed out in his original post, Thomas spent 9 1/2 hours on his car. The Corvette has the hardest clear coat out there and requires a lot of buffing while generating enough heat to get the job done so I think that kind of time is pretty typical for an entire Vette. Get in touch with Thomas and talk about it. He's a very easy guy to work with.
I agree...clay bar, Griot,s orbital, polish 1,2,3, wax on, wax off.
Well I had tried all these steps before and had only a limited success. I guess it just depends on how much damage there has been and how much skill and patience you have to get it looking right.
In my case I clearly did NOT have the skills, nor the patience.........not to mention the back to stay bent over a polisher for 9+ hours
Plus I watched Thomas for most of the time, he only stopped when I asked him process questions. He also used three very different machines, multiple different types and sizes of pads, and several different polishes to complete the task.
I have had other cars "detailed" at places that were highly rated around PDX in the past. All cost more than Thomas and NONE produced anywhere close the results.
But after all, this was just a recommendation..............

was the quote for paint correction only or a full detail?
Well. here's his email:
I was working on an 07 black Z06 today for an hour or so that was pretty swirled up. I'd say that after looking at your car, and based on this today - around $500 (10-12 hours of work) should cover it. What price range were you looking for?
Don't get me wrong. I'm sure he's very good at it but I am quite capable of doing the job myself. It's just a matter of is my own time worth $50/hour?

I sure wasn't criticizing your decision. I used to detail cars full time out of high school, for car dealerships in Bellevue. I have multiple buffers, pads, polish, wax, zaino and other related paraphernalia. I just don't have the ambition. Too many other projects that take precedence.
