Howdy folks! Well I recently got told at work that it's a no-no to take non-employees in my company vehicle, which leaves me with my Corvette and my '85 one-ton reg cab diesel pickup as far as usable vehicles. My wife is driving the 'Vette as her DD, but I would like to get a small 5-seat SUV that's not in terrible shape for people-moving.
Hoping one of my Corvette brethren will be able to assist. If anyone in Oregon/Washington is selling/thinking of selling a small SUV of any year/make/model for under $5k, please let me know!
Just to clarify, I will pay fair market value. I'm not looking for a handout, but honestly I'd trust a vehicle sold to me by a Corvette enthusiast a hellova lot more than Joe Schmoe on Craigslist.
At least FORD did not take any bailout money....that goes a long way with me.
They didn't take the government bailout, only because they had already borrowed enough before lending got shut down due to the economy. They still borrowed from the collective us, but in a different way. GM only needed to borrow from the ogovernment because they could not borrow elsewhere. I think the government kind of raped them over the coals for a loan, when they gave the financial sector much more with no strings.
I am not a Ford hater and really like the new mustangs. However, they look good because they gambled big and won. But they won because so many others gambled big and lost. If the economy had not come crashing down, would they have looked so good? I doubt it.
I aplogize if I seemed to be hijacking your post, just couldn't help myself. If Escapes are cheap, as Robert suggests, why not consider them. Every maker has it's Advantages and disadvantages. If you are worried about Ford Escapes check out consumer reports.

But GM is doing it by taking other available TARP money.
In other words, GM is taking money out of one pocket and putting it in the other. Seems like the way the payment is going to be made is by drawing down on the equity facility of other TARP money.
Translated - they are using bailout funds from the feds to pay off their loans.

Oh, I'm certainly not worried about an Escape (although the name seems to indicate that you should be worried). It's more or less a brand (un)loyalty thing. I was born a Ford hater, raised a Ford hater, and have thoroughly enjoyed being a Ford hater for 24 years now (today is my birthday!). To reverse myself now and actually buy a Ford of my own volition would be a violation of my innermost self (and would look silly after all the Ford hating I've done). They could be the only US automaker that wasn't 100% subsidized and I wouldn't buy a Ford, I'd buy a pre-subsidized GM or Chrysler vehicle.
Back on the topic of SUV's. We are actually going to be putting our Trailblazer EXT up for sale here shortly. Going to list it at market value (haven't looked it up yet but it's probably a little over 5k) but it seats up to 7 has the 5.3 V8 as opposed to the I6 and has never skipped a beat. Just did a tuneup last month and picked up about a mile and half per gallon. Runs on regular too. Let me know if this is something your interested in.

And this is precisely why I asked here, anyone who owns a 'Vette understands what a vehicle is and how it is to be treated. At least, anyone who owns one and cares enough about it to be on this forum.
I have sent him a PM on the Trailblazer but if anyone has anything else please let me know. Thanks!
