Over the years I have attended three Z06Vette Fests at the museum and we have had banquets each year in that dome. Guess we were lucky not to have ended up in the subterranean dining room.

One less 2009 ZR1

But Dave and Suzette now have a more limited production number.

The hole and the cars in the hole.

I'll bet GM is wondering about their Corvette plant about now which is just across the road from the Museum. And the Museum has a race course under construction across the freeway in the other direction.

I wouldn't want to be the guy that bought the property.

My heart breaks whenever I hear of a damaged Vette. Some AH on another of the forums said "it doesn't matter because they weren't race cars" ANY Corvette matters! I hope they can repair these!
One article I saw said that Kentucky has lots of underground cave systems. You would think they would have looked into that before they built the Museum!!!!!

Vik - I agree with your sentiment about these irreplacable cars and the damage incurred. Great news today that GM will transport all Corvettes recovered from the pit to Warren, MI and are committed to the full restoration of every one that can be recovered.

Actually a full array of geological tests were done in the early 90's before construction began and everything passed with flying colors. But...it has been 20 years and things change, including geology. Karst (limestone cave) geology is constantly changing and evolving. Most caves took millions of years to form and have remained intact for millions of years. One can just as suddenly collapse causing a sinkhole above it. It is also possible that this particular sinkhole has been slowly creating a void under the floor of the Skydome until yesterday when it finally collapsed.

glad our new one is at the Dealers in Idaho right now waiting or the truck to pick it up and dealer it down here. Wish we could have driven it back but this darn weather (still a lot better than back east and south!!!)
And good news that GM will take care of fixing the cars in the "hole"
glad this didn't happen during the visit this August!!

Too soon to commit. I am and will still be Vetteless by then and relegated to a lowly station wagon. Waiting on the new Z06 performance specs.

That lowly station wagon won't have any trouble keeping up with my old C6.
