Well, I suppose this is all well and good, but is Chevrolet trying to elevate the upcoming Corvettes to a price (and performance) level that many of us - okay, me - can no longer afford? I suppose a case might be made for offering a Ferrari-level performance car that may still seem like a great value by comparison, but if that's the case, where does that leave us humble enthusiasts who used to be able to buy a new Corvette? My C6 is a base model 1LT and I love it. Sure, it's a third car and I have the great fortune to drive it when and where I want without breaking the bank.
Porsche - or their marketing gurus, perhaps - have been known to say that an entry level Porsche is now a used one. Makes some sense, in an arrogant way - but are GM starting to price these wonderful cars out of reach of their loyal market or is it just some sort of image ploy?
Are they starting to unwittingly starting to compete with themselves or maybe get us to buy Camaros?
Thoughts?

There has been talk in the past of an entry level Corvette which would make sense if they are moving the current ones up market but I don't recall what the price point or content was going to consist of. Perhaps a twin turbo 6? I guess time will tell.

It would seem to make sense though, in many ways.Maybe it will become a Buick sports car. To paraphrase the Monty Python Classic: "He's not dead yet, he's shopping for a new Buick Corvette"

LOL my entry level Corvette is a C5Z06 that I have had for a few years now and its still way more car than I am driver. You all should join me at the Ridge on April 1st for the first turn2 lapping day of the season and show me what the new C7 can do.

My Oldest Son is buying me a track day at Pacific Raceway this June on a weekday. Be cool if some of you came and did it too, its only like $100-150.....nice long straight for my C5Z....

I'd love to join you, but you must understand, John, as I may have mentioned before, that while I enjoy track time, I also try to gain maximum value for the money. In other words, if I'm going to pay that kind of (although reasonable) amount of money I insist on getting the most "bang for the buck". Hmm, probably not the best metaphor to use in this example, but why should I pay $150 just to get around the track in, say, 1 minute and 30 sec when for the same expense I can spend maybe 4 minutes out there? Besides, I can hear my stereo while doing so and get to watch skilled drivers pass me several times a lap so I can try to understand the proper line from them.
You can only imagine how it is to play golf with me while I try to minimize my cost per stroke.
All in fun, my friend, have fun, take chances, take pictures, report back.

Here I've been planning on getting the new Z06 sometime in the future... Now the GS - it's intriguing.
My first Corvette was a 1995 admiral blue coupe. The dealer also had a 1996 Grand Sport; I really liked it but was put off by the stick-on wheel flares they had as it made it look like it was a total afterthought. Now they're bringing a similar looking one back only much more refined. All the benefits of the Z06 package but without the heat-soak issues of the supercharged motor. Still a reasonable amount of HP as well.
It's a good time to be a car person!

The Heatsoak of the Z can be fixed with a proper Ron Davis radiator.....and maybe some better fans. Not much at all, but most owners never dance with them enough to even notice any issues...

By the way, the issue is lees of heat soak due to iats, but rather the oil cooler not being good enough to cool the oil. The oil and coolant are what get hot.
