Default Insurance in the PNW

Just found out my insurance rates are going up and it makes me mad.

I dropped GEICO last year cause their quote was too high on my new 2016 Z51 coupe.

I'm currently with Metropolitan with 3 cars, home and life.

They want $2067 this year for the cars.

2010 Lexus RX350, wifes daily driver.
2006 Corvette, my daily driver
2016 Corvette, Z51, weekends and autocross in the summer.

Are we compareable with the rest of you here in the PNW?

I've been with USAA for many years and their rates are pretty good for the '02, the '93, and my Silverado. I also have my homeowner's insurance with them.

Can't hurt to call them. You certainly are eligible for coverage.

Can't relate to your costs to mine.. but I use Allstate because they let me suspend several of my cars at will and activate when I when I want to drive one of them for a day..for example I don't use my SUV in the summer so I suspend it and just have Comprehensive, and cover both Corvettes, then in winter I suspend one of the Corvettes. I can call them and insure a suspended car for 1 day or a couple of days. Saves me a bunch of money that way. still get to drive any of them but only pay for full time insurance on 1 or 2 of them at a time.

If you are old enough.....AARP uses The Hartford. They discount with packages on house and autos. They are very resaonable. It would be worth checking out. It could save a bunch.

PEMCO was good for us but they dropped me after covering my accident. Have Safeco now, will see how they work out.

I have Allstate for home, 2 cars and PU, 2 trailers and 4 Harleys. They have now paid me off for my crashed m/c and my attorney refers to them as the anti-Christ of insurance companies. My agent is a great guy, but once you go past him there real problems with the adjusters. I wouldn't recommend them for anything.

I live in the Kent area and it seems a bit high, especially if you've a clean driving record. I use an agent now. If my rates rise more than a minimal amount from year-to-year, I have him run quotes from a bunch of companies.

Many insurance companies raise rates on customers annually so I switch every couple years and it keeps my rates lower.

PM me if you want my insurance agent's name. Saves a lot of time where I don't have to spend 15-30 minutes with each insurance company for a quote for our three (soon to be four) autos and homeowner's insurance.

Cars insured currently:
2008 C6 Coupe - my daily driver
2011 Mini Cooper S - wife's daily driver
2005 Chevy Tahoe - as needed vehicle

Try to find an agent with access to multiple companies to quote from. Most companies take a 3 to 20% rate increase each year depending on loss history. Hard to compare to others as insurance is rated in personal factors such as location, credit history, tickets, losses, yearly vs 6 month period etc. Usually best to have home (or rental) with auto. Every couple of years ago good agent will quite you out for best rate. Just be sure to compare apples to apples and avoid teaser rates, usually on line, that go up after the first policy period.

Walter put me onto Jack Greene at First Rate Insurance + in Kirkland

I'm very pleased. Of course I have all my cars and my home insured through them, but their rates are great. (425) 821-1000

The beauty of using an independent agency is that can shop and gt you the best rate from a number of companies.

If they took care of Walter satisfactorily after his accident, they're good enough for me.

I'd still try to avoid any hay trucks in the vicinity if I were you. No point in testing out your theory.

I just dropped Met also. Rates kept rising. We were at $1946 annually for ZR1, Odessy, Explorer. 5K deductable on each. Had everything with them and all discounts. Pemco now but I know they dump you after an accident.

In my younger days, I was with Safeco for several years, then they dropped me with no claims whatsoever! When I asked the agent why, they said Safeco does check records occasionally and I had a couple of tickets, and apparently they didn't tolerate keeping good (no claims) standing members with tickets! Needless to say I absolutely don't give them a second chance now.

Hope they've changed now and they work out for you..

Yep, me too. Haven't looked back since. I did have an excellent agent for years with Allstate. Once her nephew too over the agency things changed. Nepotism at its "finest".

Well in the fours years I've lived up here I've only had 2 tickets, one I used a lawyer cause the Trooper lied and wrote he used a SMD which he didn't (I always have my Radar detector) and another that was so cheap I paid it. So it was only one my record.

Mike,

We have a '16 Suburu Outback, a '14 Honda Odyssey and the '08 Z06. Our insurance runs $1646 this year. We got AARP Hartford.

I switched a few years ago when I found State Farm raises insurance rates for all those over 70.

Check out, and they were great at fixing our Vette after the hit-and-run.

Hit and run with Z? I hope it wasn't too bad and nobody was hurt. Glad to see your still around Steve.

Just got an email from USAA.
Its a notice that they are raising my auto insurance this six months, more than usual. Called them up and was told rates are up in my area (Salem OR) because of above average claims for personal injury and property damage in the most recent reporting period. I have a clean record, therefore am thinking of switching carriers.

Anyone else in Oregon having this experience?
