Default repainting center caps?

this is basicly what all 4 of my center caps looks like right now.

im assumeing that theres probably only one way to do this. take forever and a day masking off everything, and then just spraying the paint right on. it doesnt look like there was any kind of primer used on these.

one other thing i probably should ask. was the paint just sprayed on, or was this powdercoated?

I'm just about to take mine on too. Previous input to me was mask and scapel the veins then paint. For the end caps spray & then remove from chrome surface with paint thinner on a rag once tacky. There are 4 screws that you can remove the cap if you want to. I bought some Eastwood black wheel paint for the job. I just got the last coat of Argent on the rims last weekend, so hope to be working on caps this weekend. I'm lucky enough to have 2 sets so I can rotate them out.

No primer, just black paint originally. Clean the grooves real good and sand the loose paint off, tape off the top and bottom but leave the edges of the grooves exposed, no need to mask them. Spray the black and I recommend flat black Rustoleum because it will stick very well to the chrome. After the paint sets up, scrape the edges with a razor blade to expose the chrome.

I just got done repainting my center caps, and mine looked just like yours did. What I did was get a fine tip paint brush with some enamel paint, and painted in the letters and surrounding circles, then I wiped off any excess paint after, the side were easier to do, but time consuming, just need to have a steady hand. took me about an hour for each cap, but beats trying to mask everything off, the outcome was pretty good..

I did much the same thing with mine. I used Krylon Semi-Flat spray paint and just sprayed some into a little cup. Just a little at a time, because it drys so fast. For the ribs on the cap, I bought a good quality artist brush that was thin and wide...but not quite as wide as the groove being painted. Hold the cap in your lap with the other hand, dip brush in paint, set it in the groove and slide it along the groove. Go all the way around the cap and when done, take an Xacto knife to lightly scrape off any "excess" paint. Worked great for me.

Default Cap Painting

Hi there, I painted my caps a couple of years ago. I thought this was a simple task. I cut a piece of a painters edging tool (you can buy these in Home Depot to paint the tight edges near the cieling). The piece I cut was the width of the grooves on the center cap, I glued the small pad to the end of a pencil (custom made paint brush that fits the groves of the cap), sweet. After a good cleaning I dabbed new the custom tool in some paint and with a smooth brush stroke the job was completed in short order. No scrapping afterwards.
