To install or not to install
I am currently doing body work on my 86 and getting it ready for paint. My question is should it be painted with the rear bumper installed or separated? I am afraid of painting over the seam and making it look crappy. I am also afraid of painting it apart and then flexing the bumper when installing it and cracking the paint. I have had some tell me it would be fine to paint it on the car, but I don't want it to look like a maaco job if I am putting all this time into it. What do you professionals do? All you full-time body guys out there earn your pay, that's all I can say after tearing a C4 apart.

I'm not a pro. My friend is, he would remove the bumper covers. He claimed it was because it looked cleaner and the flex additive in the paint. I also seen others paint with them on and use lots of green tape.
Here's a bump for you.

Depends on what paint your using I guess, Sherwin williams basically has a flex agent added when you add the hardener so its flexable no worries about damage.
Other paint systems Im nto sure check the paint manufactures recomendations
