My experience on corvette paint and body work is limited. Majority of work was on installations of wings, kits, and panel replacement. Done very little work on factory finish. I have my 95 at a buddy's shop since I am no longer in the business and he is going to respry the car and we were wondering when did the corvette make the switch to waterbased paint. We do not want to get into an adhesion problem. What is on my 95. I know it is BC/CC and clear was begining to delaminate, to much rubbing on, LOL. Any help will be useful, especially any experiences. we are taking bumpers off in order to get good seems and so forth. thanks for any and all help.
The clear coming off is a very large issue....is it factory?...is it peeling or has it been buffed or polished off....anyway, figure out the existing problems, fix with the appropriate materials, then SEAL the hell out of it with the specified sealer that your paint choice recommends...then paint away!!!!!
clear coat delamination on edges, polished to much on edges over time. it is the factory original and i was wondering if the original paint was the waterbased paint in 95. We will be sanding the car way down, we just do not want to have an adhesion problem with the original finish, or any sort of chemical reaction.
Does not matter if your base is water or solvent based.. Todays solvent based paints will work fine, as well as water based..
Seal it with 2 good coats of epoxy once you have it down as far as you are going to go then either 2k over that for blocking or you can paint over the epoxy.. No need to worry about water or solvent based products brother, its a mute point
