Default Need fiberglass repair advice

As delicate as this piece is someone on the forum has repaired this before. My only thought is to reinforce from behind. But I'm open for suggestions.

yes for sure that looks like an easy fix. looks to be in your door jam and its only carpet that tucks in behind there isnt it? i would load it up.

Would you just layer mat back there? The quarter trim bolts up behind. Concerned about the fit if the area is too thick.

For keeping the mess down and saving from doing any paint work, why don't you epoxy some thin 90 degree angled sheet metal (thick enough to have significant strength)behind that broken piece. I know it's a budda job but that piece is hard to access for proper matting or structural filler material.

I would remove the paint away from the crack and do all the repair from the front.
Then, I would use some 40 grit paper wrapped around a wood stick to vee out the crack.
Next, lay very thin strips of resin soaked fiberglass matting down into the crack. You can put masking tape on the backside to keep the resin and matting from protruding through. After curing, use the sand paper around a stick method for bringing the surface down to it's original shape.

With the crack veed out, the repair material penetrates the entire thickness of part, making it as strong as it was originally.

I have done this repair also. I can't find the pictures, but will keep searching.
Get some fiberglass (polyester), release spray, card board, polyester and the obvious tools and solvent.
Clean/remove the pain and remove the broken peace, make sure no sharp edges and curves. Smooth edges and curves. The repair fiberglass package is build up as follows: 2 layers out, 3 layers middle and 3 layers back. Out = facing door. middle current peace, back = facing interior. From the cardboard cut and form a ??mold?? for the back. Clean, spray release and tape it to the inside. Cut the middle peaces to fit in between the pocket, cut the outer peaces to overlap an inch or so. Laminate them all. Wait for cure. Remove cardboard and laminate inner with an overlap of an minimal an inch. Wait to cure. Once cured you can sand down the out side, I would leave the back as is.

Update on repair.
You guys gave me some ideas to ponder. What I ended up doing was using a piece of 16 gage galvanized 90 degree angle. Coated with mold release then layed in 2 layers of 3/4 oz mat. Clamped it to the inside. Watched as the expensive epoxy oozed out. Will use bonding cement to fill the crack from the outside. Car will get painted so not concerned about the mess.

Maybe you should strip the car first and then make your repairs?

What do I need to strip? Body is off the frame, interior is in the garbage.........Am I missing something?

I think he was referring to stripping the paint off the section you're repairing.

OK, I get it now. The repair is on the back side. No paint. Raw panel. Scuffed first.

Bet you will have more repairs!! Get your body stripped first. Then you have a good idea whats coming.

Good ;-),

No don't worry, just a precaution. If you find one, two etc repairs the way you are going now, it could turn out that you are doing repairs for noting. And if you epoxy over paint, you have less bonding, It can leave a stain. And you have to sand the spot that has turned into an area.

Just strip the body assess all the damage and may be old repairs. It will ease the job a little.
