Not sure it is anything special, I think its way too expensive at $35+ a quart, the MSDS lists it as a Polyester/styrene resin. You can buy very good quality polyester laminating resin for $35/gallon.

On the West Coast, TAP Plastics carries some great polyester resins.

West Systems and Polyguard both make excellent epoxy products.

I use the Evercoat SMC. Yes, it is expensive. I have not noticed any shrinkage problems. It adheres very well t the SMC.

I have had excellent results.

Buy a gallon of ISO Polyester Laminating resin, also known as Tooling resin,It is used for making Fiberglass molds as it has a great resistance to shrinking and heat. I also use it for all repairs, and aftermarket parts I make as it is the highest grade of Polyester resin available. There should be a Composites one Warehouse in your area you can get it from.
