Default Targa Top Metal Trim Adhesive

What adhesive is recommended for the metal trim that goes around the outer edge of the Targa Top, mine has been off for some time and would like to reinstall it.

I have never seen GM use an adhesive on them They are held on by tension.

Is the targa roof a painted fiberglass type or the acrylic type??

You can glue it if you need to. I previously commented that I have never had an original that was glued.

BUT...I am aware of what you are referring to where the ends like to pull off the top and come away from the top.

it's acrylic top, the trim is on now, I crimped the edges and it seems to hold. Once I start to drive around this spring I will see if it holds if not then I will try some adheasive.

I saw a guy on YT put some adhesive in the groove (out of a "caulk gun type" dispenser)- was wondering if that was right. But, I think they're spread open to catch water (rain, car wash)
making them "drip rails".

That's the link to what I saw. Thanks for looking at this, Dub. I'm new to Corvettes, and need all the training I can get. Lango

This is a C5 top ...which is nothing like a 1984-1996 top.

So the process in this video is fine for a C5. But 'eutu1984' has a C4...so none of this applies to the problem he was having specifically.

As DUB said the C4 is different and I dont think the trim piece is intended as a drip rail, more likely its to protect the edge of the clear top. I dont think I would like to use adhesive along the entire edge, if I have to remove it in the future it may make it difficult to remove with out damaging the acrylic top.

I see- I think since I've been researching the trim on targa tops, I overlooked the fact that not everyone has what I have. Mine is a C5, and I've been trying to learn all I can about them. My coupe came with the acrylic top only. I bought a painted Fiberglas top, but must have it repainted to match my car. I should have kept my mouth shut, because I didn't take time to look at what car you have. And, not all tops are the same thing.
I'm learning- Thanks, and good luck with your project!

DON'T keep your mouth shut. The more and more you are here on the forum helping people and suggestion your ideas...the more and more you learn about what crazy differences these cars can have.

With these cars...being VERY SPECIFIC when a person is posting a thread is needed many times due to using the 'C' terms...such as C3 or C4 or C5. There are so many changes that GM did during that 'C' era that knowing the exact year is critical.

Like I would tell my guys at work. "Assume nothing".
