Default C1 Resin Pigments

Would white, yellow and brown pigments get me close enough to match C1 bare fiberglass for repairs? If so, what supplier would you recommend for the pigments, matte and resin?

I had no idea that after 60 years nobody would have a response. As soon as I come up with a solution I will post it as "C1 Resin Pigment". May take me awhile but I will certainly share!

I am looking into it. I did not want to comment until I had good results on what I find.

Dub, I just had a feeling you would be the only person to respond. You are a busy guy so don't waste too much time on this. I am just trying to come close on repairs that show such as the underbody or other areas that don't get painted. I am also totally willing to go with matte and resin brand that you would recommend? I don't need any other opinions.

Bought this 58 basket case in 2000 and finally at a point in life to bring her back to life. Just hoping they don't take my driver license away before I finish. Await your response and thank you Dub.

I pretty much figured you were doing repairs that were not going to be painted.
I should have some information for you real soon. Hopefully by tomorrow.

I have played around with this
I assume your doing under body repairs or somewhere that is not blacked out
I have "tinted" resin, Glasin, and VPA to look like OE glues and or OE glass
OE glass looks a little yellow
I added regular paint tints to my resin with good results - A little goes a long way
I know Fiber Glast makes tints but they are $$$$$
I used regular auto tints - yellow and white and browns

I talked with one of the guys who makes the press molded parts and the dyes that are used to make the panels different colors is all handled my the chemist who mixes up the resin.

So find out exactly what is used has seemed to cause me to run onto road block.

I also have used lacquer paint in the past but did not want to pass that along due to the potential out lashing of those who do not do this stuff who an want to 'arm chair quarterback' the issue and add their thoughts on it.

Porchdog is right resin tints are easy to find at a fiberglass supply house. I get my supplies from a place in Norfolk Va called Eastern Burlap and Trading Company. They have everything you need and can ship to you. You can tint the resin just like paint. It might be a pia to get close, even the press molded colors are off.

Porchdog, sorry if I offended you. I don't feel you gave an opinion but rather you offered some information. I appreciate that but you didn't have to insincerely wish me good luck. Owned a printing business and mixed inks for 30 years so I get the process and I don't need any luck. I just thought someone else had done this before and had an easy answer?

Dub, thanks for your efforts and Csherman you confirmed things for me. I have some pigments white, yellow and brown and I will just experiment to get "close enough". Wish I had never posted the thread now.

I hope you honestly do not feel that way.

The whole reason for the Corvette Forum is to get people to pass along their thoughts, experiences and knowledge.

And TRUST ME..I DO NOT know it all and I even know that.

I know I have used lacquer paints...and different colored gelcoats blended together to achieve the color I wanted. Many of these ideas will often times cause the person asking to invest in a lot of materials that I have in my shop so I already bought them.

Not meaning that people do not want to spend money of getting something 'right' but it can seem crazy to some people to spend a lot on a 'kit' of pigments that they will only use once and a little of it at that to get a tint they need.

Dub you are spot on about not wanting to buy a lot of pigments or pigment kit or waste a lot of time experimenting with possible noncompatable paints. Between you, Csherman and Porchdog I got it. Looks I can spend about $12 for white/yellow/brown plus shipping-mixing and matching is on me now. Thanks

Texas
Your welcome
I have played around with it
you can get it really really close.......
getting the right shade of off white/yellow/ brown can be difficult
On a 59 - I tinted Glasin and it looks just like OE bonding adhesive.
Nice gray color
