Default Painting Engine block

I will be dropping in a new crate engine soon and want to paint it the same color as car. Do I need special heat paint made up? I have the paint code. Thanks

I would think you would want to use a high temperature enamel otherwise it will blister up and starting falling off after a few heat cycles.

Way back in the day...I used the alkyd enamel from PPG and got colors mixed up and it held up really good. I do not think it is available any longer and DITZCO was the brand.

The only area that I usually am concerned about the most is on the intake where IF the intake is being painted. The area where the divorced choke goes in the center of the intake beside the carb on both sides is where your exhaust flows and gets REALLY HOT there and the paint can discolor. Other than that...the rest of engine really does not get that hot. BUT keep in mind I al also using high temp paint so where your exhaust attaches to your cylinder heads never seam to discolor or flake off as long as it was prepped correctly.

I can say also that I have taken several different colors of high temp paint....and ice picked the can to let the air out and used the paint out of the can and mixed a color and shot it out of my paint gun before also when a specific color was being shot on the engine to the customers liking. BUT...I mix paint so I kind of have a good grasp on what colors make up colors and what to add or not to add until the color is achieved as close as possible. Sometimes it just is not possible due to the colors available cannot make up the color they want I have in very few scenarios had to use acrylic enamel from PPG. And it seemed to hold up well

I called PPG at 1-800-647-6050 ( option 4) and talked with Heather in the tech department and she told me that PPG has a commercial line of paints that go up to roughly 400 degrees F . It is in the Commercial Performance Coating line (CPC) and it is an ALK brand adn they have several color available and some you may need to possibly blend together.

I shot several with metal etch first (Variprime) then color (DuPont)
Single stage
Hard - glossy - but as Dub states - it will burn off in high heat areas.

I AGREE...even the wing nuts for the air cleaner lids are clocked the same way. YES...I notice and look for things like that.
