Hello gentlemen,

after stripping the paint from my driver driver side door, I uncovered a large spot of filler. I scraped out the filler and discovered a hole. My question is: how do I go about repairing this? My instincts tell me to separate the door skin and do a double sided repair. Is this the best way?

I know I would NOT remove the door skin off of the door assembly for this repair.

It can be ground down and tapered on the outside and then apply some tape on the backside and apply ONE or TWO layers of mat and resin and allow it to set up. THEN grind that down some and add more mat and resin due to you NOW having covered the hole with your first application of mat and resin.. And you now have solid surface to laminate on to get he air out and the resin to fiberglass mat concentration correct.

Then I would grind down that lamination a little bit and cover it with Vette Panel Adhesive to get my shape the way I want it.

AS for going in on the inside and applying mat and resin all depends on how well you taper the grind on the outer surface. ANY repairs I do on these Corvettes do not allow me to get to the backside of the panel and hold up just fine as long as the outside is prepped correctly....and applying the mat and resin is done correctly

Another question about making this repair. I would like to gelcoat the door skin. Should I gelcoat before or after applying the Vette panel adhesive? Thanks
