Hope you're sitting down. My stock 99 C5 auto ran 12.27 for the quarter mile last week. Mate with an identical car except for Vararam air intake made an even quicker 12.20. This is the second year in a row we've blasted such quick times beating manuals, C5 Z06s and stock C6s. We have no idea why our cars are so quick. The test strip is at sea level right on the ocean and we run in cool evening air and of course that's the same for all runners. UK fuel may be slightly higher octane but there's not a great deal of difference. Some c5 auto's are just very very quick.

From what I've seen not many have the knack for shifting a manual tranny there's alot more to coordinate. Some have the talent most don't. The automatics are much more consistant just point, push and hold on.

My mother has a stock 99 C5 auto and it's far from a low 12 second car. Maybe with a 100 shot.

Ok i have a 1999 corvette coupe A4 with the performance 3.15 or 3.25, which ever they are. My mods are: Borla stinger catback exhaust system, SLP Blackwing air filter, and 8.5mm MSD sparkplug wires with NGK spark plugs, and 125,000 miles. I ran a 8.62 in the 1/8 mile with a 2.0 60'. I really want to run a 8.5, but i cant get my 60' to drop under 2. What can i do??

I dropped my tire pressure to 23-24 psi in the rears, stalled the car up to 1350 and launched that way. Colder temps help also. If you are spinning then slap on a set of drag radials and your golden.

Well for some reason i do better if i dont stall it up. If i launch from idle, i dont spin near as bad.

That's one of the funniest things I've read on here.

Actually, a local guy to me(southern nj) has the record for the fastest bone stock C5 known to date. At least it was last year. It was at 12.6x run(I don't remember the exact time, I was more worried about getting my Z into the 12's that night lol). So yeah

My old 97 (3:15 rear) with a K&n and a hypertech to adj the shift points would run a 12.95-12.99 every single time.
