Default 1/4 mile time improvement going from 2.73 to 3.42?

I have a basically stock 2004 A4 with intake mods only. Want to know what kind of improvement in 1/4 mile times when changing from 2.73's to 3.42's. Thanks!

Also, if I add modded Ti's, LG Streets, X-pipe, Hi-Flow Cats, and Tune what times do you think I would run with the gears?

First of all, you may want to look at the head of this part of the forum where someone has done a great job of matching up mods with et times.
I think you can expect at least half a second increase with the gear change. I got almost 3/4sec on my Camaro when I went from 2.73 to 3.73 with bolt ons.
With the other improvements it looks like you could be improving by a second.

The 3.42 is a HUGE improvement over the 2.73. I would HIGHLY recomend changing to a looser torque converter at the same time that you change gears. Changing both gear and TC should give you at least a full second improvement in ET and a night to day difference in the "seat of the pants" feel.

Default Gear and Converter Change

I agree with DBN of VOLS territory. Gear and converter change would be worth one full second. Don't do one without the other

Default Looser TC

I'm basically trying to make the same determination. I have an 02 A4 vert with only an inlet mod(Vararam). I looked into going into a 3.42 from a 2.73 differential to wake things up. I was advised that an 3200 TC would be a better choice for the money. The car gets weekend use around town and interstate trips of 300 to 400 miles. Please excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure what the effect of a 3200 stall speed would have on the driving characteristics of the car. Does this mean that engine rpm would have to get to 3200rpm before the car takes off?? What happens at highway speeds? Does the RPM have to be kept above 3200??
Based on the other posts I've read, I'm leaning toward having both done but am not sure what would be a good stall speed for my type of driving??

It will basically have no affect on your highway driving. If you every had one of the "non-lockup" converters from years ago, you basically had a convertor that "slipped" all of the time. WIth todays modern lock-up TCs (locks up in high gear at a predetermined throttle positon and rpm) you can have your cake and eat it to You get the benifits of the car being able to rev quickly off the line, multiply the torque at low rpms, and still drive like a stock car on the highway. Take the guys advice, go with a TC, it will change your car like night and day!

i may have been on street tires, but more likely i was on nitto 555's. i ran it both ways and honestly can't remember, as it has been a while and there have been many changes since. im on bfg drag radials now, with significantly more mods and went 11.15 at 124 with a 1.61 60 foot on the bfg's(i like 'em, but when they're done i'm gonna try the 18 inch MT drag radials).
