That's a great idea. We wouldn't want the OP to be misled now would we?

Lol. That's right. I don't want any of you guys that have never ever raced misleading me

That's why I started this thread. Because I know none of you have ever raced a Corvette in your lives and have no experience

You could always get a cheap, used set of drag radials for the drag strip and have them double as street tires when you want max traction.
Nitto drag radials make decent street tires if you don't do alot of carving.

pit-man, you were right on with the whp. Car put down 416 hp and 383 ft lb on a dynojet. Temp was 94* and 26% humidity.

I was told my 75mm air intake and stock 75mm maf is holding it back some. And the stock axleback/mufflers isn't helping either. I already have an 85mm maf from a '05 Vette sitting on the shelf, so over the winter I'll add an 85mm cai and probably a Z06 axleback. Along with porting my TB and LS6 intake.

You may want to take this guy's advice.

If you don't wheel hop, I say go for it. I must be one of the lucky vette owners, because I haven't wheel hopped one time in the car.
Sorry, I cannot agree with this. Street tires are very difficult to drive on the track and can be quite frustrating. "As for plenty of people", that list is not that long.

Getting a good launch is hard as hell now with street tires, I found out the other day. Even the tires I have now, which are pretty sticky street tires (180 tread rating), light up just rolling on the throttle off the line. Trying to launch slipping the clutch at 2500 is about useless. I got a couple decent launches through 1st but power shifting into 2nd lights the tires up and just goes sideways. DR's are definitely a must at the strip. I'm not f*cking with all the wheel hop, its a b!tch.

Oh, sorry bud, I didn't go to the track actually. While driving home, out in the boonies on a newly paved blacktop country backroad. I decided to practice some launches. Just first gear and barely into second. For the record, I was not racing.

Even though I won't have DR's, I'll swing by Byron dragway before the end of the season and post up results. I'm guessing a pathetic low 13.

before my sc my ls6 with cam and lt's consistant 12.4 to 12.5 on street tires on dr's consistant 11.7 11.8's with 1.7x 60ft's with only 420 whp 6spd. conervative launches. some of it is also the track u r racing at. some r faster than others take into account elevation. humidity and quality of the track. for instance the small pos track were i race is 4 to 5 tenths slower then san antonio raceway just from quality of the track.

With the new mufflers and bigger MAF, power and torque is up throughout the entire rpm range. Average gains from 2,500 to 6,500 rpm are approx. 20wtq and 15whp. Biggest gains are at 4k rpm with an approx. 35wtq and 25whp gain. Of course peak hp did not change at 6,300 rpm.

Wow, that is an awesome gain.

Please tell me it was the same dyno.

I am adding an 85 mm maf, 90mm tb, and a fast 90 to my setup and I was hoping for a similar gain as you.

Actually it was tuned at two different shops so it was on two different dynos but both were Dynojets just different models. The shop that 1st tuned the car I will not go to again. Before it was tuned the 2nd time, the tuner warned me that his Dynojet typically reads approx. 10 less hp then the previous tuners Dynojet, so I shouldn't be surprised to see little gains if any. So the actual gains are probably a little better then what I mentioned but I'm just going by the two dyno graphs.

IMO, the majority of my gains probably came from swapping the stock C5 mufflers for Z06 mufflers. Its true the stock C5 mufflers aren't too restrictive for a stock 350hp motor, but on a 500hp motor they get much more restrictive. Of course the 85mm MAF helped some and is more ideal for my application but it probably didn't gain much power to the wheels.

What is your set up mchicia1?

R6cowboy,

I have a very similar setup in my 02 A4 coupe with the PRC 5.3 heads, Torquer V2 cam, headers and a FAST 90 intake w Nick Williams TB through 3,42 gears and a 2800 stall. Dynoed at 427 WHP but dynos are only ballpark as we all know. Car ran a best quarter mile of 11.50 1 at 120 mph early last spring. Pretty decent setup, wish I had sprung for some better flowing heads. I run Mickey Thompson ET streets and my best 60' has been 1.75.

Default 1/4 mile results... finally

I finally went to the dragstrip yesterday in Byron IL. I was told the DA was approx. 1600. Sorry to say but you guys were a ways off. Out of 4 passes, I ran a best of 11.8 @ nearly 121mph with a 1.8 60' on my Yokohama Advan Sport street tires which have about 50% tread left. My worst run where I blew the tires off all thru 1st was a 12.7 @119mph. Time slips are in the glovebox and not with me right now. I was satisfied with the results for my first time racing at a track in 11 years.

And you guessed a 13.1... j/k
I had two really bad runs (1st and last runs) which resulted in 12.7 @118 and 119mph. The first bad run I bogged bad off the line, my last run I heated the tires too much and smoked them all thru 1st gear. Both them runs I had to lift the throttle in 2nd due to bad wheel spin. The moral of the story, I don't think I could get a 13.1 if I tried. Lol
