Toyo R888 Proxies.. while expensive they Bite better or as good as a set of MT DRs I snapped my mainshaft on the street with those on! and I'm not nearly making as much HP or TQ as you are

Since I have a 2002 coupe, the front wheels are 17x8.5, rears are 18x9.5

The MT 275/40R17 tires require a minimum wheel size of 17x9
So I would need to purchase new wheels for these tires.

With Vortec s/c , if you do not turn off traction control, when you accelerate hard, and loose traction, the traction control computer goes crazy and it shuts your engine down. With racing tires, that would stick, I expect competition mode would work great, but not with stock street tires.
Before I had our s/c installed I talked to a guy who said that after he had his A&A s/c installed, on his way home, he got on it in second gear, and his engine went into limp mode, and he had to pull over and shut off his engine and then restart it to get it out of limp mode.

I, and many others, have been running them on c5 8.5" fronts with no problems for years.

like he said ....just grab a set of Y2k FRONTS and you will be fine
C4 zR1 rims work too..... I don't think they are as light as the Y2k rims

There is no way those toyos are going to do anything at the track. i tried road course tires Nitto 55RII's...no better than street tires at the drag strip but they were amazing on the road course.

You need the right shoes for the dance. You can ice skate on sneakers...not much fun though.

I've pulled 1.5 60fts on those toyos so .... I would say they do work and they are made with the exact same compound as DR's but with more tread

for an all around tire I would go with the Toyos...... for Strickly DragRacing the MT's or the Hoosiers would be better I agree

yes traction will be off in competitive mode, but if you start to go sideways, then active handling will kick in. and if you are that far out, the run is over anyway.

and i have run the r888s but im still stock power. the hook great, but they are not made for the drag strip. the sidewalls are very stiff, not what you want at the track.

My first run ever was on an 1/8th mile track(well parking lot of our Football stadium ), with my previous C5(procharged making 500rwhp). Spun out of the whole with a 1200rpm launch, went sideways when i hit 2nd gear and full boost. This was on 325/25/20 Michelin PS2's. Decided I'd stick to my canyon carving after that. Especially with my new car.

Ah yes here's my #'s. Real impressive. This was 4 years ago IIRC.

60ft was 2.489, mph was 80.49, and ET was 9.586

Even my mph was trashed due to my 2nd gear adventure. I backed WAY OFF to get her under control.

Street tires + boosted Corvettes = teh suck at any track, especially ones that are not official tracks.

My experience was very close to yours. I was 45 degrees left of the track when I hit second gear. The pucker factor was huge. Over the years I have had most all of my cars and trucks down the 1/4 mile, just to see what they would do. I was not planning on running the Vette at the strip, but my drag car was not back from the painter, so I thought what the heck. I have had our Vette at Thunder Hill road course, but I am not that good of a road course driver, so I will retire our C5 to street duty only. Maybe if I get an itch, I might buy some M/H street radials and try it one more time. I know Paul Newman ran road courses very well at the age of 70, but I am not Paul Newman.

At your HP levels, drag radials may still have traction problems. If you are going to spend the money, get the ET Streets.

I run that combination. Stock front tire with those on knock-off C5 Z06 Front rim mounted in the back.

a 275 40 17 hoosier drag radial mounted on a stock front wheel should work fine for ya.
The sidewall is perfect- itll wrinkle, it's stable going down the track and it's 6-7lb lighter than a M/T street radial


A buddy of mine has a C5 with a Paxton novi 2000, blower cam, etc (550hp thru an unlocked converter) and he hooks well. has gone 10.2 @ 133mph

I have those tires on my C5 and love em. my converter hits pretty hard and ive cut 1.46 60's .
