Hey guys I want to start modding my 98c5 ls1 so far I have done a CAI and a full exhaust system with xpipe. I'm planning to get some lt headers soon, but my question is... Living in CA And having to smog my car, is it possible to reach 450rwhp on stock cubes? If so, what should I do and what to get? I'm waiting on a buddy to take off his 04z heads I'm planning to buy from him and planning to have cleaned up and installed with some (hopefully) mild cams. What specs should I be looking at to attain 450 to the wheels and still be smog legal? Thanks in advance guys

I think the only way to attain that (you can't use real headers) would be to supercharge the car.

Guys? Agree?

So realistically if I has basic bolt one (cai, LT headers, full exhaust, ls6 intake) then stock ls6 heads and some mild cams and some dyno/ tune time .. What would some realistic numbers be to the wheels?

I seem some people here reach 450 NA am I missing something?

Look at my 98 and my mods---Calif smog legal car on rollers--- minus the visual of my LT headers which I have to remove for passing smog --It makes apprx 400 RWHP
450 is a tall order on a 5.7 IF you have an automatic --drivetrain loss on an A4 is 20-22% where on a 6 speed it's only 10-12%
To get more than 400 you would need a larger cam and maybe a 90/90 set up with stock cubes with an A4 --but even that would be not near enough to make 450 RWHP and pass smog--The largest cam I have seen pass here is about a .225/.225 @.050 and no lower than a 114 LSA---lift really doesn't matter--
Being "quick" in the 1/4 mi isn't just about HP-- whenever you get above 350 RWHP it's more about traction and on an A4--stall converter---On a 6 speed it's about traction and how high of a RPM launch you are willing to risk breakage of parts

Now that's the kind of answer I was looking for... I just wanted to know what to expect and not get my hopes up too high, ya know? But lets have some fun with this... Lets say I get my 243 heads done up to a stg 2 then put a 233ish cam 114 lsa with .600 lift. Ported ls6 intake n tb ... With this setup def not gonna pass smog but just curious what kinds of number this will put out?

If you that worried about smog.... Just pay a low end shop a extra 50$-100$ under the table to pass you. Its been done before.... Just sayin......
