Default Bolt-on a4 cars

Just picked up a 2004 A4 vette today. This is my second c5 (last was a 02 z06). I am looking to go F.I. down the road but i prob will end up throughing bolt-ons and a tune on this car until i supercharger it. I was wondering what ppl are doing in the 1/4 and or the dyno with bolt-on a4 vettes. The only mod this car has is a SLP powerflo catback.

I did a vararam cai, vararam powerduct, ARH 1 7/8" headers with 3" catless x-pipe to start with my z06. Prob following these mods but go with 1 3/4" headers and cats this time.

Welcome & Congrats on the new (to you) toy!

There is a quick list in the sticky on the top of the page where you can get an idea of what your car will run. Keep in mind that the fastest of the bolt-on cars have almost every bolt-on available.

We have a 2004 coupe as well and have done most bolt-ons possible.

Vararam, UD pulley, valve springs, 1 & 7/8" ARH LTs, off-road x-pipe, Ti exhaust, Yank SS4000, 3.90 gear, Bogart wheels, Hoosier 295/50/60 DRs, tune.

We also have a Pure Stock IHRA cam which has stock lift and stock duration so IHMO there isn't much there but you can take that for what it's worth.

On the dyno we made 372 and the best ET (in perfect air) was 11.58 @ 114 with a 1.50 60'.

THANKS GUYS. Really looking forward to playing around with bolt-ons for this car. The stock wheels came with the car so i have an extra set of wheels for DRs. I can tell a gear change would help the car a ton. It has 2.73s and takes forever to run through gears lol.

Which factory wheel & drag radial is best to run? I am thinking about using the factory front 17" wheels for them.

When we first got started and drove the car to the track we used 17" front thin spokes with a drag radial. IIRC it was the Mickey Thompson but could have been Hoosier. I don't recall. I do remember that we drove it to the track with the Yank SS4000 TC and 3.90 gear and the 60' was in the low 1.6xs. A good converter and gear took 1 second off of the ET. We went low 12s without even having headers on the car. it's all about maximizing what you have.

Been careful; modding is addictive and there is no none cure ... or end to it all. We are already making plans to go 9s!

Have you ordered your Kooks yet? I have no first hand experience with them but have read posts where guys said fitment issues were a PITA! We went with ARH 1 & 7/8" and love them. First quality and installation was a breeze! Just my 2 cents ...

If you were close, I have a nice set of Hoosier 275/40 on Black Z06 rims I'd sell. The rims are GM, not aftermarket.

But, I'm in Oregon.....

I sold and shipped our thin spokes with drag radials not too long ago Ron and they surprisingly weren't too expensive. I go to the local Office Depot and ship USPS. Put a piece of cardboard on the front and rear the same diameter as the wheel and tire together and then some packing tape. I was shocked at how cheap it was.

yea i did. a local buddy of mine has a shop and does a lot of installs of kooks and arh. he did not have any neg things to say about them. I had ARH on my z06 and their fit and finish was top notch i agree. i did see on youtube kooks posted a video of how they have changed their design to fit better. video shows them sliding the headers up from under the car. not sure if the ones i am getting are old or new style though. guess we shall see lol

Headers will be here the 21st. I am thinking abt just getting a UD pulley to just finish off the bolt-ons lol. Should be installing all the parts and dyno tuned around the end of the month. What size DRs should i get for my 17" thin spoke wheels? 275s?

IIRC that is the correct size. We had really good luck with the Mickey Thompsons in that size. Very streetable and cut some 1.6x 60' times.

If you're planning on changing the cam one day I'd do the UD pulley then. These cars are a PITA to change the pulley on because you have to remove so much stuff including the steering components. When you get that far you're so close to doing the cam change you might as well then. Just my 0.02 but we've been there and done that. Will be doing a second cam change some time this year when AI does our 243 heads and we pick up a cam from Tick.

Why is that? Because your not doing the cam yet? Just wondering if it is worth it if you are doing a H/C swap?

yea not doing a cam for awhile. If you are doing a h/c swap then i think it is def worth it. You have to remove the stock pulley to do the cam so why not replace it with a UD pulley.

Picked up my car from the header install and dyno tune. The car made 321 rwhp and 350 rwtq on a dyno dynamics dyno (reads lower than a dynojet). Did not get a baseline pull in stock form so i cant say for sure how much the mods/tune picked up. My good friend who tuned it said his 98 C5 auto car with only a tune made ard 275 on the same dyno. Not apples to apples comparo so who knows just how much i gained lol. On the dyno sheet the tune alone picked up 18+ rwtq all through the mid range and 11 rwhp at peak (over the bolt-ons & stock tune). The mods def changed the car a lot. Feels much better and it sounds great. Wished i could have got a video of it on the dyno. Cant say enough good stuff about my tuner!!! He spent a few hours making small adjustments until he got the car spot on through out the pull and spent a fair amount of time street tuning it. He tuned my 02z the same way about three years ago and it made really nice power.

2004 a4 car with vararam intake, vararam powerduct, 160 thermostat, ngk tr55 plugs, kooks 1 7/8" headers with 3"x2.5" cat x-pipe and slp powerflo catback.
