not really the best deal. You need to send them your bare heads as the $499 price is for porting only. Their port program is old via 2003-2004 period. This included nothing else. This information was from Jason at Katech. So, if you needed a valve job and the deck taken down a bit, you would still need to find another shop. I read this a few months back on ls1tech.

I say hold out and just stalk Craigslist and the Facebook marketplace for heads. I check them daily and it really paid off last week. I got a set of CNCd 243s for $500, cash. The guy had them ported then sold the truck and didn't ever install. Have all the paperwork from the machine shop, including a 3 year warranty.
Deal of the century?

Final pouring size is just as important as gains, bigger isnt always better
Wouldnt shop porting by price its not all the same and agree that polishing is a colossal waste of time, mostly for appearances sake, kind of like a signature.

Let us know the results. I live just outside Weatherford, TX and had I known they were local I would have given them a shot. I went by there a few months ago because AI sent me the wrong head bolt kit (GM specifies the short head bolt kit for '04 and above, but my engine needed the old style head bolt kit), and they only charged me the difference in price to swap them. Seem like good guys.

I was at 420 rwhp 401 rwtq prior to heads installed.

I had an England Green Mayhem 2 cam and bone stock 241 heads on my '04 manual. It made 408 rwhp on the dyno. I ran it for three years without freshening the valve springs and paid big time - two of my lifters started bouncing off the cam lobes and eventually shattered and lunched the engine.
During the rebuild, I had AI do my 241 heads. In addition to the port work, they welded up and reshaped the combustion chambers to 58 cc, which I believe will bump my compression ratio to 11.5. AI estimates that along with the 234/242/112 cam, I should see around 460 rwhp.
Since I also burned the clutch, I decided to replace it with the C5 LS7 kit that Scoggin Dickey offers. It's a little heavy and may bring down my peak hp a little, but the OEM reliability is a good tradeoff for a few peak hp.
I should be getting it dynoed here in the next couple of weeks.

Tsp prc 225 cast heads. In a ls2 have done over 500 many times to the tire with a btr4/ms4/polluter style cam and fast

Sounds equivalent to a good Gen 1 220-230cc head ought to run well. The noticeable thing is the LSx heads do it with a 2.00 in valve, not a 2.02 2.05 2.08 etc.
To get 290cfm through a Gen 1 intake port wiht a 2.00 valve you usually have to butcher it to death.

also take into account when comparing those 2 flow bench charts that Frankenstein's are on an LS1 bore while TSP's are on LS2 bores, which will net a little higher numbers (if i remember right)
