C2 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019

Default best cat back

So I'm here from the c1 c2 forum because my cousin just got a 04 z06 and wants to do some bolt'ons. For now just a cat back and later headers. So what cat back would be the best considering the headers will be next. Thanks Reno

The stock TI one supports plenty of power and is light;look for gains somewhere else. One day those will be tough and pricy to find (and not a "purist" my any stretch of the imagination)
If he wants to add weight and make it louder well then go for it.

Most of the name brand exhausts are within a few hp of each other.

Honestly I would do headers 1st. I would do 1 3/4" and would not do any 1 7/8 on a stock cube, naturally aspirated build. Z06 TIs can sound nice with headers. I saw you are in Cali, if emissions are a problem you may want to look into C6 Z06 manifolds, nice gain with OEM parts.

The best exhaust is like asking a jogger what the best shoe is. It all depends on what fits you.

I was a GHL guy when they were made in the USA. They were sold from what I understand and production moved offshore and then out of business.

A few reads, I would try to meet some locals if you can find any playing with C5s and listen:

I'm not sure there is a good exhaust system for LS powered corvetts. I'm an old muscle car guy and to me that the sound. I just got a C5 2004, putting a Halltech air system on and can't find a good sounding exhaust. I don't know if it's the firing order of those engines or what makes em sound like a goddam rice burner. The one I've listened to on You-Tube sound terrible, when idling they sound like an old truck and when ya wick it up they get that rice rocket sound then pop and back fire etc. Are there any systems out there I might like? Thanks guy's.. Yall probably think I'm crazy

LT headers through the stock titanium mufflers.

If you want loud, add in an exhaust cutout. I had that setup till i went auto and the deep oil pan of the 4L60e got in the way.

Here is a pic (not my car).

I have kooks LTs, kooks o/r x pipe. I had a Borla catback on there and now have a B.B. bullet exhaust. I can try and see if I can find some sound clips and upload them if you’d like.

Another vote for doing the headers first. Tis are tame at idle and sound great under loan with longtubes.
