Default Lq9 416 c5 FRC updated 567/495

Lq9 416
11.2.1 compression
stock ls3 heads valve job/decked
btr stage 4
gz vac pump
holley hi ram
ported ls2 TB
kooks 1 7/8
borla stinger
503/468
Only have 300 miles on motor time of dyno, had to have tune to fix running issues.
motor is built for 400 shot which is soon to come. Has direct port/stand alone with promax setup, not all hooked up yet. I’m happy with results so far but tuner says I have valve float but everything is new and the shop that built my motor says there’s no way it has valve float...not worried about it right now until next tune. Trying to get couple thousand miles on it before I unload a bunch of spray since it’s just a toy and no hurry.

Update.....car has been retuned on motor no changes to motor still stock ls3 heads. It made 511hp/486tq on a NGK number 9 plug. The car will be tuned Friday on a 400 shot. Numbers will be posted if it doesn’t scatter!

What does your valvetrain consist of?

Btw, just because its "NEW" it doesn't mean it won't float.

Ls3 rockers with trunnion
ls7 lifters
btr 660 spring kit
heads had fresh valve job

Since I’ve spoke with the tuner I’ve read a lot about ls7 lifters being bad new out of the box but I think the valve train sounds normal. Not sure really at this point.

Those are good springs.

If your running 5/16" pushrods, that could be your problem. 3/8" rods would be the way to go.

I’d have to ask the shop that built the motor. I picked it up as a complete long block.

No major changes so far. I have around 1k miles on the motor now and I go through about a quart of oil every 500 miles through the catch can. I have the pump turned all the way up right now otherwise I will start getting oil in the intake.

I spoke with the engine builder and he says everything is fine, just need to drive it and keep my foot out of it because he says the rings haven’t seated yet. So I just monitor the blow by every time I drive it.

Car seems to run great, no smoking out the exhaust or through the catch can and plugs are dry. I just drive the car last night for the first time in two weeks, so unfortunately it’s going to take time for me to get miles on the car. My goal is to get it tuned on bottle this year but not going to push it unless I think the motor is 100%. I’m itching for nitrous results on the dyno!

also, these are things I’ve monitored and relayed to engine builder. Maybe someone else sees a problem here but this is NOT my input saying it’s ok. I have knowledge with my car but I don’t build engines or cars for a living.

thanks

Who is your builder, and how does he expect the rings to seat
without Load?

I am no Engine Builder either but had a Engine built and used
a derivative of the Mototunes USA Break in procedure.
Might be worth a read and a discussion with your builder
if you think it makes sense. A new engine once up and
running and checked for leaks or issues with proper oil & water temp will/should seat the rings relatively quickly against the
cylinder bores with LOAD.
4-6 pulls or load cycles should do it.

How many pulls were done on the dyno?
It may be broken in already LOL.
How is the drivability and low speed manners?

I’m in the process of wiring the nitrous system up which consists of the promax controller, lnc2000, stand alone, wideband and bottle heater. I’m going to run the closed loop tuning option on the promax controller.

With that being said I cancelled my last dyno session for motor again. I think the motor is good to go at this point and will go back in July to do a motor tune/nitrous tune in one trip.

The motor was done by Gunderman performance engines out of Indianapolis, which he’s pushing a lot of ls engines out in Indiana and a reputable guy. He’s being building motors longer than I’ve been alive so I trust what he tells me.

I wasn’t there when the car was on the dyno, I dropped it off and picked it up. I would say atleast 5 pulls in the dyno. The car drives great and runs awesome. I just have excessive blow by. Probably just the gap on the rings for big spray is all I can think at this point and something I will live with.

Ill update once I get the car back on the dyno

Yes it is. I have a level VI rpm trans, stage 4 diff with 4.10s and RXT twin disk.

I thought about auto swapping the car down the road but I’ve always been a manual transmission guy. I doubt it ever gets swapped over, id probably upgrade to a TR6060 setup if something happen to what I got. The diff has exploded before, the one in it now only has a couple hundred more miles than the motor.

Well I went to a dyno day yesterday and decided to put it on the rollers with 26N 19F jets at 4psi on fuel my nitrous outlet card says this jetting is good for 200 shot. I was pulling 7 degrees which puts me at 20 degrees total on a #8 ngk plug and vp no2 in the standalone. I haven’t had the car on the dyno since motor tune. And it made 791hp on bottle with no motor pulls but that’s almost a 300hp gain on 200 shot jetting.. I was happy. I’ll post vid and dyno sheet.
