97 Heads/cam dyno results (Cam Motion)
Recently completed heads/cam on my 97. Had it tuned/ dyno'd locally today so for the benefit of others like myself trying to decide on a cam. my setup is as follows
stock bottom end 97 ls1 (100k)
243 heads milled 0.20 (approx 10.75:1 )
new oil pump/ls2 timing chain/ls7 lifters
Cam Motion Mild ls1 stage 3 (218/224 .553/.553 116)
JBA longtubes (stock cats) w xpipe and C5z TI-exhaust
ls7 clutch
Dorman ls2 intake
ls2 throttle body
Very happy with the results (sorry this pic is of the "standard correction" sheet the sae one my tuner prefers was 410/417 i believe)
Car has slight lope and drives stock other wise.

nice. the cam in my truck is almost the same specs (mine's 113°+3) and it's great. i'm sure your extra compression & 1200lb weight savings make a world of difference, too.

Cool thread. I also have a stockish 1997 with 29k miles.
In the process of gathering parts myself. I have a nice set of low miles 243 heads, and a very clean LS6 intake. Already done long tubes.
My cam choice will be a little bit more aggressive but nothing crazy. My dyno tuner wants me to run a BTR stage 2. I think I am going to send my heads in to TSP for their stage 1 CNC porting.
Also my tuner gave me reassurance that tuning the 1997 PCM is not a big deal as long as you are trying to make moderate power levels without boost.
Thanks for posting your numbers. Gives me something to look forward to.

I went back and forth between the BTR stage 2 , the cam motion titan 1 or 2 and the Texas speed 220 or 224r , but ultimately I wanted a cam that used ls6 springs for Reliability sake and maybe a quieter valvtrain. I doubt you will be disappointed with the BTR cam I have Heard nothing but good things about that cam. The ls6 is a solid intake I went with the Dorman because I got a deal on it through rock auto and testing showed it fell somewhere between the ls6 and a fast 102, so for the price splitting the difference made sense for me. Good luck on your swap 👍🏻

Yea I did a fair amount of research on the clutch before I decided on the LUK ls7 that I put in when the motor was removed to do the heads/cam... so I’ll be sticking with the ls7 for the foreseeable future, next is a t56 rebuild and conversion to z06 ratios if I can swing it 😂 as for the Dorman has a fast 90 on my last ls powered car (ls swapped thirdgen ) and HATED how loud the fast was, but they do make power that’s for sure
