performance choice? please help me
I am starting fresh with a new to me C5..... I recently bought a 2002 vert 6spd. only 8,000 miles on it. and I will for sure want to upgrade my performance.
I previously owned a 2001 C5 vert 6spd that I bought in 03' and sold in 2010. I supercharged that car and did everything brand new and perfect and skipped no expense on the details. I was single then.... lol, and now married with 4 kids. Neatness to say my fun "power" budget is not what nearly what it once was. In all actually is not even close. Honestly I am happy to have talked my wife into selling the boat we bought 8 years ago at the expense of my very perfect vette to by the same vette again except stock
I feel that the stock C5 is slow and needs power upgrades. I have had an old 1970 Buick GS with all motor 600hp and a C5 vette with a Supercharger at 600hp. I love the sound of all motor power..... but power is still power. In hindsight I really enjoyed my C5 way more than I did my Buick. Thats why I bought one again.
So if starting from scratch again. which way should I go. when considering all things budget, best performance, reliability? Also what can I buy used and what should I buy new?
I Dollar for dollar what road should I take? Please help me. I would like to start planning my road to a faster C5
Thanks in advance for your help!!

550 RWHP? Turbo all the way, Much cheaper, check out ls1 tech dyno results,
Stock C5 engine with a turbo cam can make 600 RWHP on E85.
550 @ Crank ~ 450 RWHP. NA 11.0-11.5:1 Comp with Mamo Motor Sports (MMS)
223 Sportsman Heads smedium 227/233 cam, FAST 92 Intake, 1 7/8" ARH LTS w X Pipe,
Great drive ability.
To get to 500 RWHP NA from a 5.7 takes a lot of money for uber heads in order to reach
with a reasonable sized cam.

I had a D1 Procharger and understand how that works. don't know much about the Turbos.
Which is better procharger or turbo for money invested power and reliability?
is the 550 @ crank your numbers? how much money in do you have?

I have 2001 A4 vert. AR Headers, LT long pipes, X-pipe and Corsa Sports. That got me in the direction I wanted to go but wasn’t quite there. So I dropped and A&A SC on it. That did the trick. Plenty of power for me. Last dyno was 467 RWHP at 8 lbs of boost with 560 lbs of torque. That is a very conservative tune with totally stock engine otherwise. My tuner was afraid I would blow it up and he’s probably right from my research. Around 500 HP from my understanding is where things start to break.
I just turned 50k on it, close to10k with SC and zero issues and holy hell is it fun. I’m very happy with how it sits now but I think I will do additional work to the engine to reinforce down the line. My two cents.

IMHO, the easiest way to more power in a C5 is an ECS supercharger kit. Completely stock drive ability and 550+ horsepower.
Of course there are things you can do to make more then that, but it’s a great place to start.

I don't think there's a new secret sauce since your last C5. A centri blower (the endless A&A and ECS debates suggest to me both are great choices) is the most cost effective and reliable solution out there.

Thank you all for your input. I kind of figured a centri blower was my best choice just wanted to make sure. 10k seems like the going rate installed with headers. I was really hoping to find a better price than that. any input on the price and where to go? I am from Milwaukee. I used FLP in Naperville for my previous car and they did me right with that one. although I had an open budget then. not the case anymore.
Problem is I think a C5 is slow without a blower and 500hp.

How reliable was your last centri C5? I've read lots of threads of chaos happening post blower. I've also read plenty of threads with 600+ (sometimes way plus) with stock bottom-ends.

The used/rebuilt blower is a smart move, sure more than 1 mfr has access to many.
Youre right the stock C5 is pig slow..drove a brand new 02 vert 6 spd and was real disappointed.
Keep us posted and no more kids man. lol

would starting with a N/A set up be a cheap way to get started and stay withing the 450 rwhp and then leave the option open later to add a superchager?
Or would you just choose a path?
Looking at the most cost effective route to 500-550 rwhp.
Also if I wasn't ever going to the track and just wanted street fun how mush difference is 450 N/A vs 550 FI seen as N/A is right now and FI has comes on later in the power band?
I am not worried about gas mileage. and more interested in the thrill factor and reliability and also cost to get there.
Used N/A parts are safer to trust buying than FI right?
Thanks ahead of time for your answers

I have a 2002 C5Z with 503 rwhp/495rwtq NA with an ls3, all supporting mods from ECS that I used to road race and now just drive on the street. ZERO issues, the torque curve is great with it in the 450's at 2800rpm as it climbs to 503 at 5800. Its been very reliable and longevity with power was the key here. The pull feels great and the car is pretty quick. I'm too stupid to post my dyno draph but Doug at ECS probably can. Good luck whatever way you go.
