Default Honest opinion on HP

Good Afternoon everyone
I have been a member here for about 2 years now and. I believe this
is my first post. I have been reading alot of threads on this
site from Hp mods to issues I was trying to resolve with the.car
and I have learned alot from you all here so Thank you
I have a 97 A4 vette with 142xxx miles on it . it has the Hi performance
3:15 rear end but other than that it is a base coupe. The car belonged to my
Father who was the original owner so I know the motor and trans are in
great shape to start building on. Would like y'alls opinion the parts im about to
put on the car. I'm really wishing for 420rwhp and hopefully 390rwtq.. The only things done to
the car now are
Zip tie mod with K&N filter
Ls6 intake
Fog light mod

I had the dyno tuned in Feb and after it was over the car
made 311.55 .HP and 328.32 rwtq.

I The mods I have going on the car are
Thompson Motorsport 235cc ported 243 head with new stock size valves
With 5 angle valve cut. Pac 1219 springs and supporting hardware
Esp custom grind 604/604 222/226 with 115 +3 cam
Ls6 intake
1 7/8 Long tube headers with catless xpipe and factory mufflers
Ls7 lifters
BTR rockers arms with upgraded trunnions
Melling hv oil pump
Bosch ev14 42# injectors
Rollmaster single roller timing chain set
New ati balancer
BTR push Rods
Cometic 0.40 head gaskets
And all bolts being replace with ARP bolts

Like I said I was really wishing for 420rwhp but what do you guys think.
Also forgot to mention in using stock trans converter for the time being

Sounds like you're going to have a fun driving car. Don't worry about the numbers, just get a good tune and enjoy the car. Although, I would have gone with a bigger cam and an LS2 TB but... Drive it like that and get a good feel for at and if you ever need more power just throw a supercharger on it and call it a day. :-)

I would look for a used FAST 92 & LS2 TB, at a minimum worth 15-20 RWHP over ls6 with your heads and cam.
Agree with above poster 222/226 is a pretty small cam, 228/232 with a good tune would still run
very well especially with an auto. 3200-3600 TC down the road. I would be surprised if you crack 400
with current C & I with auto.

Good selection on the 243 heads! However I believe the cam is too small to make 400rwhp. Like above poster said 22x/23x might get you to 400. FAST intake and LS2 throttle body will help also, I sold my used Fast 90/90 setup on here for around $800 — it was ported and made 27hp/27tq when I added it to my car!
Do it right the first time if at all possible.... otherwise frustration and downtime due to bringing it back for more work (not to mention you end up paying twice or three times as much like I did).
Best of luck, 400rwhp is fun!

I have almost that cam - 222/226 600/600 112 (and the same springs, lifters, oil pump) and broke 400 hp with lightly ported 243s with factory size valves and an LS6 intake with only 1 3/4 headers, but a manual. It drives easy and makes flat power al the way to 6,700 rpm. Dyno sheet below. Small cams are under rated. Good heads can make up for little cams. That said if you have plans for a gear and stall you certainly could go with a bigger cam. It all depends on your end goal. I was building a weekend fun toy and easy drivability and a flat power curve was my goal. Good luck with your build.

LS6 intake will be more than enough to get you to your power goals.
