I'm really glad you're not president.

This is real bad news for their economy in the long run anyway. You think anyone is getting their checkbook ready to invest there? Why do you think so many people invest in the US during global instability? Because while we're expensive, we're not going to nationalize your ****.

Oh, I get it now. Good one!

I was referring to the book, not the VW.

Just surprised to learn that GM had a plant there. Would have thought they'd know better.

When things were going badly there for my former company, our ex-pats got told one random Tuesday to leave at the end of the day like it was a normal day. Don't clean out your desk, or carry a bunch of crap with you, just leave and lock the door as usual on your way out. When they got home, they were told they were leaving the country in the middle of the night. We were not the only US based company to do that.

I've read it already. Mine was an automotive reference on an automotive site that he didn't get.

Venezuela is now in our backyard?

Do you know what a map is?

Won't be long before that country has a civil war. Sucks for those 2700 workers that are now out of a job.

Socialist logic at work down there. Now they have the plant, how are they going to build anything without parts? Where did they think the sub assemblies and parts come from for assembly?

Meh. Details.

What was that Woody Allen movie where the crazed dictator who ordered everyone to wear their underwear on the outside? That's next.

You want to build manufacturing plants in foreign countries to save on labor costs etc. well guess what, that comes with risks. This is one of those risks, it was a risk when Chavez was in power and it only got worse. The federal governments job isn't to go around the world protecting seized corporate assets in foreign lands. It's also not the not the taxpayers of this country to bail them out. Their "cheap" labor costs just skyrocketed.

Want to escape the safety of America for cheaper labor and bigger profits and then expect Americans to pick up the tab after it falls apart....Bullshit

Maybe so, but again foreign governments aren't always stable, same risk.
