Default Police in Canada can demand breath samples anywhere for no reason

Well this country's lawmakers just went full potato.

https://globalnews.ca/news/4832762/i...F9o0eOO6rAwweg

It may sound unbelievable, but Canada’s revised laws on impaired driving could see police demand breath samples from people in bars, restaurants, or even at home. And if you say no, you could be arrested, face a criminal record, ordered to pay a fine, and subjected to a driving suspension.

You could be in violation of the impaired driving laws even two hours after you’ve been driving. Now, the onus is on drivers to prove they weren’t impaired when they were on the road.

I read this yesterday and was going to bring this up - the SPECIFICALLY DO NOT NEED REASONABLE SUSPICION but can demand a sample from ANYONE who's been pulled over.

I also think the cannabis laws are weirdly specific and don't take tolerance into account, but I suppose that's true for ethanol as well. Glad they dropped it to .08, really could have gone .06 (no tolerance plus .08 is pretty drunk to be driving).

I much prefer the law that allows women in Canada to walk around topless.

Oh, and I no longer live there...

That law has been in effect for a long time.

Guess how many topless women I have seen in public?

Beyond fucked up IMHO.

So I go to the pub on the way home from work; have a respectable 2 pints and drive home sober. But I pass someone on the way home and it pisses them off so they call the cops. Meanwhile I'm at home and I enjoy 2-3 more pints then the cop shows up and demands a breath sample. Fucked if I do; fucked if I don't.

I just happened to be in Vancouver the day they were protesting/supporting this law, and there were hundreds of topless women on the steps of the library (or maybe it was city hall). Not a single one that you'd -want- to see topless, of course. Lots of golf ***** in tennis socks, that sort of thing.

Not that a public protest should be an opportunity for perky boob voyeurism for my benefit, I just happened to have it thrown in my face while I was there and took note of what I saw!

Canada used to have this messed up law where you could kill someone (not on the roadway), run home, get drunk, claim you were drunk during the murder, and almost get away with it (like 2 years less a day). I think they've changed that since I was a kid, but it was pretty scandalous back then...

So true.

And CDNGolfer will support this new law, I'm sure.

Next time you visit Canada, or Toronto, use your credit card for everything. That way, you won't need to figure out the weird money system.

Simple don't drink and drive and if they come knocking on your door and you think they are going to get you to blow don't answer the door
