I posted this because there is so much smoke and mirror crap going on! Especially the Government and what they continually promise! Big name people got in on this one! A con can really convince a lot of truly dumb people!

Yup, nothing to do with the fraud, deceit, terrible business practices, intimidation of employee’s, etc. . . It’s those pesky engineers that caused this failure. . .Couldn’t be mgmt because they’re all geniuses. . .

So when people ask “Who cares what they (CEO’s) make?” It’s examples like this. They’ll lie to investors, make terrible decisions, and tank a company and when SHTF, after they’ve left making tons of money, they’ll blame the little guy.

Not on such a large scale but Energous (WATT). . .

Don’t have a product, keep missing deadlines, burning through cash, but have an IPO that’s trading at $6.26 a share. (Down from $16 a share a year ago. . .around the same time I made a thread about shorting them. . .)

They always blame the skeptics that demand repeatable independent proof when SHTF (and they ignore the concerns and become fully invested on faith and the "too big to fail" mentality).

Funny how essentially the same concern has been voiced for proof of the theory of CO2 based climate change causation, “They lost the recipe. The tests were not coming out right. That 60 to 90 days twenty to thirty years extra to figure it out a valid independently repeatable proof took away the runway we thought we had,” but what the hell go all in and disrupt the global economy anyway and silence the damn skeptics.

.

Energous, even if they could deliver on the initial promises (which they could not and have not), was essentially obsolete when the standard bypassed their product offering. They missed their window of opportunity to be the standard, and unless they can deliver a four-fold increase in charging distance or density they are done except for alternative products. Energous could have used a modern day Tesla, and so could the rest of the world, but the technology would be bypassed just like Tesla was by competing new technology (and a billable service platform).

She clearly should be in jail and fined heavily. People who acted in good faith and on gray-area non-public inside information have suffered far worse for much more dubious wrongs.

To your side jab, all the data, papers, etc is publicly available. The problem is that the science requires effort. You're suggesting "Unless you can mix two chemicals together on a bench, AGW doesn't exist."

Here's a prime example: Richard Muller a denier/skeptic was sponsored by institutions to do the "BEST project" (Berkely Earth and Science Temperatures). Even Anthony Watts said he was accept whatever results came out. Low and behold, "Yeah, the earths warming and it's CO2". Watts started attacking Muller and the science.

So I would argue it's the deniers that adhere more to the "Ignore the people doing the science. . .We have a vision."

Energous failed because of physics. The amount of energy that can be transmitted through air via acoustics is understood; The efficiencies are garbage.

If she had been some garden-variety shill she might have gotten away with things and, if caught, a wrist slap...

I suspect the scam just took off, got out of control and she couldn't reign it in or control the information flow...then when she started appearing on magazine covers it was just a matter of time before the legal system decided to make an example of her...when the truth came out.

Personally, I hope she winds up in poverty leading a life of ignominy.

Nope, she kept lying. She knew full well what was going on behind the scenes and lied about it.

One of the reporters doing a story on her said she was surreal. Like interviewing a little girl trying to talk with what they thought was a grownup's voice.

They took a calculated risk, if they passed and Holmes took it to CVS and it succeeded, it would have been a big dent on Walgreens.

I used to work for a company that sold to both Wal-Mart and Target and their minds were always all about getting something before the other one did.

Energous failed because of physics. The amount of energy that can be transmitted through air via acoustics is understood; The efficiencies are garbage.

The Berkley Earth project confirmed the CRU temperature records used by the IPCC needed adjustment, and the adjustments have been made with revised temperature data.

What the Berkeley Earth project did not do was find CO2 causation, and the effort did not isolate CO2 as the major cause of temperature (climate) change. The effort did advise that, IF there is correlation between CO2 and temperature (a big IF), that the IPCC estimates of that correlation were too high. Since that revelation and recommendation was accepted, the IPCC has discounted the influence of CO2 in their climate predictions (the evidence exposed the CO2 crisis the IPCC is established to study and promote was never as dire as the IPCC predicted, even from the IPCC's politically controlled, CO2 focused, approach and acceptance of climate science).

The theory that (*** IF ***) CO2 causation on the climate is a significant influence, remains absent of quantification and unknown.

.

The Berkley Earth project focused on assuring that we use an accurate temperature record, and it did confirm the continuing long term warming trend since the last ice age (something no real student of observations disputes).

The project did not resolve the cause of warming or resolve the influence magnitude of CO2 with respect to other climate change influences through the use of scientific methods.

She also knew that the FDA protocols, regarding practices to prevent contamination and cross contamination of samples, would never be achieved by her visionary plan for her machine on a counter in every pharmacy (let alone on a battlefield or helicopter). Even if the technology was advanced enough to derive an accurate analysis from the small blood sample, she knew the FDA would have to approve every machine site and machine operator, requiring a new FDA protocol, with clean room infrastructure and documentation standards at each site. This is something she had to know, as anyone who works in the industry knows FDA compliance is required (per my experience working with one of the market leaders, Quest Diagnostics, who is exploring a business model similar to what Theranos resorted to doing, with patient samples drawn in stores being flown to regional labs for a quick turnaround).

I agree - what my intention was to say the scam got away from her and got so big there was not getting out of the quicksand.
Exactly what happened to Madoff...

Its rather old news as far as I'm concerned. 60 minutes had it along time ago

It's funny how dropouts cant finish a school like that yet they are shrewd and clever enough to invent fraud schemes
