You mean 8 lane highways are not free? You should really see California before you knock it. There is a reason 1/5 of the American economy comes from there.

Many of us have not only seen it, we've lived it. There's much better places to live.

This is purposely done by the tree huggers in that state to push people to buy EVs.

Texas gas prices are half of what was posed here right now.

Those would be highways, freeways are state or county maintained.

So "1/5" (actually approx. 14% of US GDP) of the American economy doesn't generate enough in taxes on it's own without sticking it to the motoring public?

Wait guys, I think I got this:

$4.99 for premium - $4.59 for regular equals = $0.40

Suddenly, it doesn't seem so strange at all.

A lot of the reason for high CA gas prices is taxes, both state gas tax as well as sales taxes.

But prices also have spiked over the last couple/few weeks, due to:

- semi-annual change-over from (in this case) winter-blend to summer-blend (there is a small/modest price spike twice a year, when the change-over occurs)

- there is a large refinery shut-down for a while, down in So-Cal

- and, at the same time, a partial shut-down of a refinery up here in the Bay Area.

The reason whey they above "events" have such a large impact on prices, is because CA's idiotic state government has seen fit to specify gas blends that are unique to CA. So if anything happens to local refinery capacity, we can't use gasoline from neighboring states......

It is all done for the sake of cleaner air, in theory, but the incremental benefit from the "special" CA gas formulations, versus what other states use, is very minimal. Lat I checked, our air is isn't cleaner than the air in Nevada, Oregon, or Arizona. But we wouldn't want to use their gas.....

CA citizens/voters are such naive fools.....

It's naive to believe that all of the tax dollars go to our highways. Lib politicians continue to over tax the citizens to pay for the illegals here.

the tax goes to the public sector first then trickles back into the spending economy where business and investors get blamed in turn

I only deal with local clients for the IT consulting services I provide. I get plenty of business within 30 minutes of my home and don't often need to venture out of that area.

There are less expensive places to live. Living in coastal SoCal is gorgeous with the ocean at your footstep and good skiing not far away. Show me a place in the US where you can have a better outdoor lifestyle year round and I'll consider living there, and high heat and humidity for three or four months a year immediately exclude the area from consideration. Cali politics suck, I get that.

Just wait for some Democrats out there to say it is unethical to tax illegals at the same rate as citizens and allow them to buy gas tax free. As stupid as it sounds I bet some think that way.

Right here. See my avatar.

You just can't be afraid of rain. But once you start heading deep into our rain forests....you will begin to appreciate and love the rain.
