Default Chicago: Another Abuse of Government Stealing Citizens Money

Long story short: This woman took her car to the auto body shop. The Tech took her car for a drive and got busted for No Drivers License.

Her car was Impounded and the driver was Fined thousands of dollars.

The City of Chicago said she and 1,000s of others are responsible for anyone who drives their car, either With or Without Permission.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/opini...514-story.html

Imagine you take your car to the body shop for some repairs, expecting to have it back in a week or so. But as the weeks pile up, you start to worry and become less comforted by assurances that they’re just “waiting on parts.”

Finally, they come clean: A shop employee was driving it a few weeks ago and got pulled over. When police discovered he was driving without a valid license, they impounded your car.

A routine trip to the shop is now a nightmare. But it becomes substantially worse, as you discover that the city will not give your car back unless you pay thousands of dollars in fines and fees.

That is precisely what the city of Chicago did to Veronica Walker-Davis and Jerome Davis: It demanded that they pay for someone else’s illegal activity. Said Walker-Davis, “The city made me feel like a criminal, even though I did nothing wrong.”

There's a reason that a few hundred years ago, misbehaving politicians would be covered in hot tar and feathers, then run out of town with a whip.

Shitcongo is a sanctuary city, of course illegals are going to be driving without a valid license or insurance. It's what they do.
Hiring an attorney would most likely cost more than the fine. I think burning down the body shop might be in order.

Generally, PDs used a certain tow company that has a contract with the city. The police department doesn't see any money.

What do you want the cop to do with the car on the side of the road after pulling the car over and the guy driving doesn't have a DL?

Let him drive it back to the shop? If he gets in an accident it's the cops ***. Call the owner ? Then what wait an hour for the owner to show up? Keep it on the side of the road to get broken into? Serious question, what do you want me to do so I can use it on the street.

How about you go to the shop tell them it's their fault and they pay the tow fee. Simple and reasonable.

I took 65Zs comment to be a reference to forfeiture laws.

The car should have been impounded, no doubt, but the owner (providing that they can prove that the car was taken without their permission and not due to neglect on their part) should not be held liable for the fines. All they should have to do is file a motion through the courts and have the shop held liable.

Agreed. Just trying to give some perspective to these outlandish posts about the police.

Someone has to pay for "Illegal Immigrants" to stay here.

My wife was at a Stop sign waiting to proceed thru the intersection and she got hit by a hoopdie-doo POS.

The driver said "No Engrish." Wife called Police, the cop said You're SOL. This guy has No Car insurance, No Drivers License and he's Illegal.

Call your own insurance company.

Cop said he was going to write the guy up but nothing would happen.

They were also Not cooperating with ICE so they had to let him go because they had no way to hold them overnight.

Lesson learned.
